Between moving and having a baby I haven’t been able to focus on this story- especially since I wasn’t super into the plot in the first place. I honestly couldn’t tell you anything that happened in this book from the last time I opened it.
It has been a while since a world dragged me in and held on so tightly. I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost with these characters and may have already started rereading it because I enjoyed it so much. There were a few points where I found the POV jump a little jarring. I’d just start getting into what a character was up to and suddenly it shifted to someone else. But in all I had a lot of fun reading this!
(I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
This is such an enjoyable, easy read. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series and I’m glad this one read just as well. The characters are lovable and I really find myself caring about what happens to them. Plus it was nice to start getting more of the backgrounds of the characters who had just been on the sidelines somewhat in the first book.
If you’re looking for a complex story or something to challenge your brain- this isn’t the story for you. It’s just the right balance of lightheartedness and action, if a little predictable. I’m also over the whole ‘I can’t be with them I’ll corrupt them’ trope. I don’t hate it but it’s in every one of these types of stories and I wish there was more of a solid reason for it plot wise than just for the sake of it.
All in all this is a fun, lighthearted fantasy story and I’ll definitely reread it in the future while impatiently waiting for the next one.
This was such a fun read. I was expecting something light hearted with a bit of romance fluff- but there is so much more to this story than just the relationship between Evie and her villainous boss. Watching that relationship was so fun, but the characters that round out the cast are just as amazing. The book ends on a huge cliffhanger and I’m in desperate need for the next installment to come out because I’m invested in this world and these characters now.
I LOVED this book. It’s just the right amount of cozy to make it an easy read, but not so cozy that the story drags on. The characters are what really take this book to a 5 star read. They’re all just perfectly written and I know I’m going to go back to this book as my comfort read a lot.
I loved this story, but I find I have trouble listening to audio books and retaining the story. Definitely picking up a physical copy so I can give this book a proper read.
