I was captivated by the mystery this little town in Arizona held. It actually took an unexpected turn and I was a bit disappointed. Though I was happy for the revelation and closure the main characters received, I thought there would be more suspense/a cunning side to this story.

This was a fantastic ending to the Maya triology.

It was filled with mythical creatures, a rollercoaster of emotions, hope, unexpected plot twists (which gave me a scare, but you cannot give up hope) and so much more!!!

I would like to thank the assistant to Rena Barron for reaching out to me for the opportunity to read Maya and the Lord of the Shadows. This was truly a honor. I am so sorry it took me so long to compose this review. I honestly was at a tug of war between finding out how this series ends and not wanting it to end.

This series just warms my heart and is great to reread again and again.

This is the first book I have ever read by Octavia E. Butler and I am over the MOON happy after reading this.

The MC is a Black Vampire whom is desirable, courageous, brave, unforgettable and a refreshing character. She wakes up in a cave in excruciating pain with no memory of what happened to her nor who she is. We come to know the world through her eyes and who she is as the story progresses. Along with help from those on the way.

I did mentally clutch my metaphoric pearls (especially while driving) listening to the audiobook. This is definitely more for mature audiences. It's so difficult to express my love for this novel without dumping spoilers. Just impossible.

Found family, my favorite trope, plays a major role in Fledgling and I could 100% relisten to this again and again.

An individual recount of a mother protecting her children. Gives a viewpoint of discrimination that children with both visible and not visible disabilities. Kind of cringy how of the MC actions/reactions, including the long moments of hesitation.
