This was not what I expected it to be. I went in with a vision of grisley tales for groesome kids and it just wasn't like that. More sci-fi and supernatural like his more famous children books. But it's less like that and more about small twists in everyday life.

Some of the stories were good and some were just a bit boring. My favourites were the ones with big twists and what made the world colourful.

Rating for each story:

Lamb to the Slaughter - 4/5
A great start to the book and very close to the type of story I expected. Love a dark story!

Skin - 4/5
Similar to what I was expecting and loved the storytelling throughout.

My Lady Love, My Dove - 2/5
Just not as excited as it was trying to be. Maybe it's a story of its time as I have no clue what the game was.

The Sound Machine - 3/5
Loved the concept of the machine itself and a bit more supernatural than other stories which I liked, but the story itself was a little boring.

Taste - 2/5
Just kind of boring. I get the suspect the author was trying to create but it just didn't hit.

The Great Automatic Grammatizator - 4/5
I enjoyed this one a lot and I feel like it can be related a lot to the current struggles with AI and automation. That possibly made it hit harder. Loved the ending as well!

This felt a bit anti climatic for me.

It's is very naturalistic and hits some hard themes, which was executed perfectly. I just think that isn't my cup of tea. I still enjoyed the world building, in fact it was my favourite part of the book. I just couldn't connect with the characters.

I will be watching the TV series to see if I like that more and might pick up the next book after that.

I devoured this book!
It felt tense and fast paced the whole way through, you could feel the urgency of the situation pulsing out of the pages. I was with the characters every step of the way.
I loved the groupings in the book as well, the back stories and lore that was dropped as amazing.
I'm really going to miss these characters and I will definitely be rereading this series in the future!
The only thing was it felt a little anticlimactic, but that may have been due to the speed I read it at. I did LOVE the ending, but not my favourite book of the series.

Okay, so not my favourite of the series so far. I found it was paced quite slowly compared to the others and I found myself not going to pick it up to read as much.

BUT

I still very much enjoyed the story and the character development! There are some plot points that I think are up there with some of my favourite in the world but the book overall was a little slow for me. It felt like a filler episode.

I can't wait to read the lest book of the series now and see it all come together in the end!

What a cliffhanger!!

Okay, best book in the series so far. The bringing together of the plots from the other two books was seamless!

Characters developed, plot thickened, questions answered, twists twisted and cliffhangers hung.

I couldn't have asked for more, this was everything I could have hoped for!
Onto the next one immediately.

My favourite book of the series so far and potentially my favourite book of the franchise! This was everything I love about this world. Tense quests with high stakes, character development and growth throughout, more lore sprinkled in every chapter and twists I did and didn't see coming. I'm not sure you can beat it!

I was on the edge of my seat for almost all of this book! I thoroughly enjoyed being thrown back into the world with added lore. The way the author has added new things and more real world myth that didn't disrupt the original story but added to its depth, is perfect.

Some of the new characters are possibly my favourite of the whole franchise! I really cared about them and was rooting for them the whole book.

There was a good mix of predictablity and twists I didn't see coming. I enjoyed trying to figure stuff out without it being shoved in my face and things that were revealed were only necessary. There are still questions unanswered and theroies yet to be proven, and I can't wait until they are.

I'm really looking forward to continuing this series!

I enjoyed this short story and loved seeing the main characters slow descent with her mental health. I think it does a really good job and showing the nuances of mental illness and the way that is manifested with her was fascinating. I was however confused on the ending, I'm not entirely sure what happened.

I definitely enjoyed this, I found myself wanting to know what would happen next. It's not one of the usual books I go for but I liked the concept and plot. Being used to YA style of writing I did find some parts hard to read. But I was along for the ride and found myself immersed in the world and they unveilling story. It feels like a documentary or and autobiography as you go through the events as the narrator recalls them. It's a very different reading experience but I enjoyed it a lot.

A childhood favourite, still a great story as an adult.

The character development and overall message of the book is written really well. The characters felt real and I really cared about what happened to them.

With hard hitting topics that probably went over my head when I was little, I was really happy to find that I enjoyed this just as much now as I did then!

Cudos to the author for bringing up real stories to kids is a digestable and intriguing way.

Still a favourite to this day!
