Out of Love started out SO STRONG, but ultimately fizzled out as the story went on. I liked that the book started with the breakup between our unnamed narrator and her (ex) boyfriend, Theo. She told their story backwards, ending at the moment they met.
I've been in my feelings lately, so a lot of passages in the first half really resonated with me and I felt so drawn to the book. I loved our narrator; she is so witty and some parts had me actually laughing out loud. I felt her pain, her anger, and have been in similar situations.
The story kind of got boring towards the end, and there were some filler chapters that really didn't have much to do with anything. If I were rating this on just the first half - easy 5 stars. But in its entirety, it just didn't completely work for me.
I love Karin Slaughter and will ready pretty much anything she publishes. False Witness felt very different from every other book.
This was a DARK crime novel. It covers disturbing and triggering topics and some parts I had to stop and take a second before continuing. Leigh and Calli are trying to move on from their devastating past, until it confronts them head on and they're left to face consequences.
My main problem with this one was the overkill of COVID-19 details. The mention of masks every other page was so unnecessary and tacky. I know Karin said she wrote this book in this specific time period to show what issues society is facing, especially the MeToo and women's issues, and I appreciate that, but it didn't really work.

Chiang Yee, knows as The Silent Traveller, comes to New York from London. Published in 1950, this book is a collection of his thoughts, experiences, and feelings starting from the boarding the ship in England to leaving New York.
The Silent Traveller's writing style is so elegant and classic. It is beautiful and his words easily paint a picture inside your mind of that exact moment in time. I very much enjoyed the descriptions of his experiences in New York City. I love this city more than life itself - any book about it I can get my hands on, I will!

Soon, tensions rise & Nina feels uneasy about their upstairs neighbors, Vanessa & Chris. Nina thinks that Vanessa could be in danger. When things take an extreme turn & Zac leaves Nina, she starts to wonder if maybe SHE is the one in danger…
This was a good thriller; the outcome was not exactly what I expected. I felt it was all very rushed, though. We had 98% buildup, 1% reveal, and 1% epilogue. I felt the twist was over explained and it was a little underwhelming.
