shakespeare's hamlet is one of my most treasured works; i love historical fiction and the minutia of people in the past. so i'm sad to say this book was like going on a date with a guy who is perfect on paper — but there's absolutely no spark between the two of you. i wish i loved it.

in all honesty (and without coming across as self-indulgent) i think maggie o'farrell's writing style is too similar to my own. like listening to your own recorded voice, it feels distasteful lol. it took a while to get going and i'm not really sure where we ended up. i think i might have been more moved by it if i read it in, like, high school.
