the review by gardenerhere sums up many of my thoughts, namely: if it was really that good, why did it take me so long to get through? (the read dates are a bit ambiguous, since i started it last year and did the last two-thirds last week). not to say the beginning is slow — the first part of the book featuring lefty and desdemona ended up being the highlight, to me. the book made me laugh, cry, empathize with cal. i would recommend people give it a try, even if i might not revisit it for a while.
