A most epic of journeys. Haven't read anything like this in years. Kinda still struggle for words to express my enjoyment a year after finishing.

A top read out there. A Ronaldo/Messi of a book amongst lesser stories.

Předesílám, že v češtině skoro nečtu a scifi v rodném jazyce jsem naposled otevřel před 30 lety. Za mě tedy náhoda a obrovské překvapení. Autor perfektně namíchal takový minimalistický koktejl bez milionu postav, bez mezihvězdných federací, bez osudu lidstva a bez válek s emzáky. A je tam i vsuvka s orálním a análním sexem!
Plus, jsem četl, že by se kniha měla překládat do angličtiny. Rád si to pak opět přečtu.

Me gusta! No idea how I got my hands on this book as late as almost 30 years after its release.

There's no avoiding the all too familiar sci-fi tropes like a large, benign federation of human colonized planets, or an unknown and grisly galaxy-wide threat. But I found the religious aspect interesting and the plot solid. The pace of narration is fine, imho. A wide range of characters and places is included. You get scientists, tough military types, local and global politicians, spaceship captains, farmers, priests, sectarians and various sentient constructs.
Felt similar to the Hyperion cantos the Culture series at times, which is always good in a story.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
"ZOMG you have never read anything by Gene Wolfe?"
Now I have, and...tedious as hell. While I do like the worldbuilding, my brain does not agree with the pace of narration and its focus on unimportant shit.

An umpteenth take on the same thing, yet a great read.
Also, it is good to see an author born in 1976 writing about holocaust. A promising start to his career, I reckon.

I have no idea who might find this dross book appealing. It is poor in every aspect books are usually rated.

My first contact with the Warhammer 40k universe. I knew about of the video games, but had not realized there were tons of books as well.
This is a solid 3-star thing. Swiftly paced, acceptably predictable and pleasantly short.
