Eli's Promise by Ronald H. Balson

I appreciate this book for not being overtly graphic about the horrors that happened during WWII or what all transpired at the concentration camps. I don't do well personally with intense images and to face the horrors of man head on can be very shocking.
With that aside, there were a few problems I had with this book. Mostly that there were a few inconsistencies, along with the fact that part 2 I felt during the majority of reading that section was a little pointless. I know why the author did it, but I feel like maybe it could have been handled/written better.
This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't an overwhelming success. The ending seemed a little rushed and not as detailed as the rest of the book. The ending did make me tear up a bit, and was as best of a "happy ending" as I think you could get given the circumstances.
I'm ending this on a 3.75 star read but rounding up to 4 stars on GoodReads.

This is pure Hallmark movie made into a book.
I love the best friend to lover trope and honestly I feel like this one was done so well.
I will say that the book could have done with a bit more editing and descriptions, there were moments where I was confused in phrases and trying to see the scene in my head with the limited explanation of how people/objects were placed.
Also, the book is true romance in the fact not too much else happens by the end of it and the ending kinda comes quickly.
I'm frustrated with the reasoning Stella gave for not wanting to express her feelings at the end but I'm honestly happy it all worked out, the pacing was just a bit off.
In the end I'm giving it 4 stars, I had a great time with this book and I very much enjoyed it.

This book kinda gave me vibes of drifting off to sleep while watching a relaxing movie. Like you are kinda just along for the ride, even if it's not overly exciting.
I do feel like the ending was abrupt and doesn't feel quite as hashed out as I would have liked but it did get emotional and very meaningful in the last few chapters.
I think the book was a 3.5 star read (rounding down to 3 stars on GoodReads), since it seemed above average but there wasn't really too much going on until the very end.
I do understand that the characters had to make a journey but it seemed very average at best and didn't overly grip me personally.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

So this was a decently fun read though I will say some of my biggest issues were the lack of explanations of some aspects of the world in the book, the ending not being overly climatic, and with the main characters taking forever to figure out the mystery that they were working to solve.
I also didn't like the Yumi resurrection aspect of the ending. I feel like it would have been a better ending if she would have self-sacrificed and then it ended there. I appreciate the author wanting to make a happy ever after, but I feel like it would have been a better story had she not been revived.
Also I can't get past them having to tell all the characters in the end that she was his secret girlfriend and not his sister, that seemed very cringe.
In the end I'm giving this a 3.75 stars (rounded down to 3 stars on GoodReads) because it was better than average and I did enjoy the journey of the main characters shenanigans.

Was this book a middle school level read? Yes
Was it a little fast paced? Yes
Did I still overly enjoy it? Yes!!
Ok, so baring in mind that it is a middle school grade reading level book, it is still a magical fun time. I think it holds up well for adult audiences if you are wanting something quick and easy to digest.
I found myself still caught up in the action and plot, plus seeing how all the drama unfolded for our characters was still a treat.
It's like a Disney movie, something for kids and something for adults. I really enjoyed this book and will of course be continuing on with the series.

If you are looking for a Sherlock Holmes meets Black Mirror then this is the book for you!
It's not your typical murder mystery, and getting the story in pieces while also still being able to create a well rounded group of individuals was all done successfully from the author.
The only part that I felt was lacking was the ending. There was so many questions left for me the more I thought about it. The questions were not from the who-done-it but the world building "outside" Blackheath.
Overall I will say this was a great read for me personally, and I was totally absorbed while going through the story and trying to figure out the ending (which I still didn't).
The ending message of forgiveness and taking on each new day and striving to be better were very meaningful sentiments to end on.
3.75 star read as there were things lacking to not fully bump it up to 4 (but rounding to 4 on Goodreads since it was pretty close)

Wherever She Goes by Kelley Armstrong

This was a fast-paced novel that left me guessing and trying to figure out where all the pieces would end up.
I will say that I felt parts of this book were unrealistic as far as how the characters acted (I know it's a work of fiction, but it did seem far-fetched) and it was frustrating when I felt like some of the situations were nonsensical.
I do appreciate that this was an easy read and had a really good heroine to stand behind. It wasn't your typical "spy" or "cop" character which I appreciated.
Ending this on a solid 3.5 star read (rounded down to 3 stars on GoodReads) as it seemed like everything kinda fell into place too easily for characters.

So I read this just to see if it was as cringe as I've heard many people say it is.... And I can confirm that it is.
The author basically had 4 brain cells when writing this, 2 of them were horny and the others were just running around causing a mess.
The story had very little plot and consistency while there was like 80% smut which overall felt almost predatory and rapey which was totally not very sexy.
Basically this is some Wattpad writing trying to make it as a book. If you are wanting to read this be prepared for context and grammar errors, the same phrases repeated over again, and so much sexism of toxic masculinity.

So I will say this book did take me some time to get into because of the classic fantasy writing style. It does give The Hobbit vibes though not as well polished or fluffy feelings as Tolkien brings.
I feel like for me the ending was very powerful and I loved the message of life moving on and choices having this grand or butterfly effect that you can't always see.
I will say that because of it being an older novel there were moments that I was dozing off and struggled keeping my attention. Ending on a 3.5 star (rounded down to 3 stars on GoodReads) as the book was a comfort relaxing read but it didn't wow me overall.

Ok, I will say I absolutely adore this book as someone who is a gamer and is with a gamer. The references were perfect for me and it was interesting to hear some "insider" information about the whole design/programming side of things though the book didn't overly focus on that.
I feel like this was a more adult version of "Ready Player One" and similarly I will note that if you don't really play video games this book might not resonate with you as much (not to sound pretentious, but just saying as far as personal connection to the story).
This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, but it felt honest in the fact that this is how life and people really are. This story is a very realistic one I feel, and the author did an amazing job telling it even if in the end they don't really become a couple in the normal sense of the word. It was an amazing parallel to have the same begin/end with the game creation situation (I'm a sucker for that) and I felt like the ending of "possibilities" between the characters and having worked through their "trauma" felt very complete.
Overall this was a 5 star read, but I will say that there was a lull near the ending chapters that could have been cut since I felt like it wasn't needed.
