Out On a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young
5.0
Ok, I'll start off by saying this book really did surprise me. It was so adorable and cute with the romance, idk if I went into this book with expectations but I found myself smiling AT MY KINDLE for 98% of this read.
I do have gripes with this book, though not enough to really push it out of the 5 star category for me. The first problem was that Bo never really had any flaws, he didn't create issues that they as a couple had to work through. He literally was a dream man and literally perfect in all ways.
The second issue I have is that the book VERY HEAVILY implied that to have a fulfilling, happy, complete life you need to have children. At least that was my personal take away from it, and as someone who has intentionally chosen to be child-free I obviously do not agree.
I do give the author credit for never really making me see the characters as "less" for having disabilities and in the end I didn't even think anything of it other than that was just how they were. The book really focused more on the characters growing into themselves and finding a way to complete their life without really drama in regards to their relationship which I found interesting for a romance book.
It's a 5/5 stars for me though, this book had me crying, had me laughing, had me enjoying the loving spice scenes. I'm so glad to have come across this book and will totally read anything this author writes.

This was such a surprise of a book. It's so warm and cozy and utterly wholesome.
I will preface by saying I had tried multiple times throughout my youth to try to read this book and could honestly never get into it, but now as an adult it brought up such wonderful feelings of comfort. It truly is a magical tale.
I don't want to say too much without spoilers, but as someone who has watched the movies first I will say that they did a great job in holding true to the source material.
Now, I did listen to this as an audiobook so it was very easy for it to hold my attention and also didn't struggle on names of characters/places.
Ending on a 4.5 star read (rounded down to 4 stars on GoodReads ) as there were some overly descriptive parts that kinda took away from the story.
Will recommend to anyone looking for a fun adventure!!! I can 100% see why this is such a classic.

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Ok, so this ended up being a 3.5 star read for me (rounded down to 3 on GoodReads) majority of the high rating came from the romance.
There are....some issues that I can't seem to look past, the biggest being that the main female character is just overly generic and we as the reader don't really know too much about her other than some base character traits (I came to this realization halfway through the book) and I felt she was this way moreso so that the reader could identify with her and insert themselves as her easily.
Another thing that irritated me was that the author likes to age up/down the characters at whim in regard to how they act. One minute they are very mature and the next they are doing stupid immature things. It's all kind of a mess as far as character development goes.
I will say that to me personally this was the inverse of the first book - Clockwork Princess - as I felt that ended on a high note and this kinda ended on a low.

Ok so I will start off by saying this book was so over hyped.
It took me so long to get into this book (like 40%) and kept falling asleep in the beginning. I felt no true desire to pick it up and read and see what was going to happen. We literally do not get any character information other than base info until the last handful of chapters.
The constant flip-flop on if the myths were real and the insta love moments just all seemed chaotic. I honestly feel like this book did not get enough editing and needed a lot of cleaning up.
There is literally no description/plot of the book that Effy is obsessed with nor do we get any information really on the discrimination between the two ethnicities of people mentioned and why the counties are at a disagreement with each other.
I'm ending this book on a 1.5 star (rounded down to 1 on Goodreads) since I genuinely could not really find any redeeming moments and I would not reread this.

I went into this blind and had almost no idea of the premise, so I was pleasantly surprised to see one of the main characters being a lesbian woman, especially for being written so long ago. I will say this was a fast read even with most of the dialogue being written from an uneducated black woman in the pre-WWII days.
I felt more attached to Celie's story than I did Nettie and felt like there were quite a few lulls in the book and even the end felt a little dragged out to me personally, though I do appreciate the happy ending.
I think the book raises lots of concerns and issues faced by minority groups and social class struggles. What I didn't appreciate was the underlying religious tones, but I can understand how it fits into the characters and story.
I will say I was a little uncomfortable and didn't quite understand the whole group of people the story follows all kinda being with each other and rotating dating around in this small group.
I would recommend this book for anyone wanting a nice surprise of a read and who is looking for a more first hand experience of African American culture but do be warned of the content warnings. Ending it on a 3.5 star, rounding down to 3 stars (on GoodReads) as the ending left me feeling lack luster.

This was a pretty unique book in the aspect of the magic system and I really liked the discussion topics presented in this book (sexism, racism, societal gaps, etc).
I will say that what ended up lacking for me were some of the final chapters. There was some last minute drama that was added in that I felt never got hashed out and also seemed to have come from no where, but also some chapter content just felt there were added to make the story longer and didn't really add much to story in the final moments.
In the end I'll give this a 3.5 stars

The Sting of Victory by S.D. Simper

This was a pretty average read. I enjoyed the book though it was pretty fantasy based so there were quite a few characters and different races to keep track of. I felt like the biggest issue this book had was that the author had too many thoughts and plot points that didn't need to all be included. I think it needed more structure, though I did enjoy the book.
To me it falls a little below average as I probably would never reread it, but wasn't disappointed to have spent time on it

This was a fun read, it kept me entertained and engaged in the story though I will say I don't feel dazzled by it. The lore to me didn't seem to have a fresh new take, and there were some character inconsistencies. Overall this was a good reading experience
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

This was a whirlwind of whiplash from just about the 5th chapter onwards.
I started off thinking this book was boring, I kept falling asleep while reading it. (I do still believe that it was long winded and could have gotten to the point a little quicker.) Then I was thrown for a loop when trying to figure out all the interworkings of this group of young adults we follow, thinking I had it all figured out and that the plot was convoluted just to be proven wrong.
About halfway through I for sure thought the author completely forgot about the murder mystery and went into a weird side story angle but boy was I wrong again!
I think in the end there were lots of twists and plot moments the author tried to squeeze in that maybe could have gotten trimmed down some but ultimately I felt like this ended in a nice way, though I don't think it justified the almost 500 pages it took to get there. Ending this on a 3.25 star book but rounding down to 3 stars on GoodReads

This book was decent in a very take it for face value base story way. I don't think there was anything particularly wonderful about it but it wasn't totally horrid.
I think in the end it was just kind of bland. There wasn't a lot of character development and growth and not an overwhelming amount of backstory and some of the plot was just.. improvised and were given out of convenience for the story. In the end it's just a decent read.
