City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
4.5
This book felt like if the movies Burlesque and Factory Girl where to have a love child then add a splash of Titanic.
I didn't go into this book with any expectations and didn't really read the synopsis (as I do with most books) and honestly was pleasantly surprised.
This was a good book about a woman that finds her way in the world and her adventures as a young adult fresh in New York City.
Instantly I was drawn into the story and stayed captivated through the whole way through. I very much was waiting to see how this book would end (in a positive anticipation way) since I didn't know how much more Vivian's life was to tell and what was left.
The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read was that there was alot of focus on her sex life which seemed odd for an elderly woman to keep mentioning and also there were some lulls in the story (though these were very small). But mostly this book is without fault.

This was a pretty good light read about determination, finding your path, and pushing through those uncomfortable moments in your life.
I do appreciate the topic of teen pregnancy being addressed here, and that struggle and stigma. I felt like this was done pretty well in the novel.
I will say that everything felt very surface level, and I felt at the end of the book reaching for more in-depth content.
Also, the love interest going from bring flirty to saying he didn't want in her pants, then for them to kinda mess around to just end up back flirty again seemed unnecessary along with the bitchy girl to kinda friend development.
Another issue I had was that several times throughout the book the characters didn't act or talk like regular high school students. You can tell that was written by adult and kinda missed some of that authenticity.

This was a truly heartwarming novel written by someone who you can tell has processed grief in a very healthy but possibly long, roundabout way.
I loved how everyone was interwoven together and seeing how each character was able to impact someone felt cozy in a way. The character growth from each person in this story was approached in a such a way that felt genuine.
The book was very easy to read and get through and you can't help but want all of these people to end up happy. This was a splendid book that I will recommend to someone who is looking for a cozy read that also handles real life issues.
I can't think of anything off the top of my head that is keeping this from a 5 star read other than the fact it didn't really blow me away. It was a nice comfort style of book but there were moments that seemed slow and also a little nonsense or frustrating with the characters.

Let me start off by saying that I didn't hate this book, but it does have some things that for me personally were a mess to get through.
I'm going to be very blunt and say that if this book was written by a man he would have gotten so much pushback on the content in here. The main love interest is walking red flags in just about any way that you look at it and the female lead isn't much better.
Honestly this book was way too long, if we cut out all the repetition and extreme constant description of how Stefano was handsome and wealthy and how family is important or how extremely insecure Francesca is the book would be about half the size.
I will say that the writing is easy to digest and the author does keep the reader engaged throughout the story, enough so that I'm willing to keep reading to see how each of the brothers' stories happen to go.
In the end this was trashy fun but it's not something you would pick up if you are feeling major world building or a romance to base in real life.

This was a masterpiece of a book!
It's multi-dimensional, it's gripping, it's addictive, it places the reader in places that make no sense and I literally ATE. THIS. UP.
This book wasn't meant to describe every aspect of what's going on, but it's a true journey. I closed this book with a smile, these characters are just charming in a fucked up kinda way.
I will say that my only complaint was that the horror/gore seemed more for shock value and not so much to be truly terrifying (which by the end makes sense, but I feel like could have been handled a little better), they seemed to just been thrown in there to make you a little unsettled.
If you are a reader that needs a plot to be fully placed in front of you with lots of description then this might not be the book for you, but if you are a fan of round about story telling and hidden messages then this will truly move you.

This was a cute little side story that I very much enjoyed. It didn't have the same major mystery elements that the other books had but it was still very charming.
I am still (as always with this series) left confused on some parts but at this point it's to be expected.

This was a pretty interesting start to the novel series, it hooks the reader in while only giving just enough information for your mind to feel satisfied but also curious if what is going to happen.

This was a very good book that highlights how the justice system can fail and how prejudice can affect a jury.
I found this book very easy to read because of the fast pacing and the intriguing story line.
There are some very graphic things about this content so please be sure to read trigger warnings.
But overall I very much enjoyed this book and I can see how with this being his first book the attention he would have gotten as an author.

As someone who read these books in reverse order (I stated with The Hunter) I will say that this is the better book between the two.
I still feel like the book was about 100 pages too long, but the slow burn of the mystery really worked better here and we were able to get more into the thoughts and development of the characters.
Overall I feel like this book was much more composed than the second with both the pacing and the plot.

Honestly, even if this book is a children's novel there is 100% something here for adult readers too.
This charming tale takes inspiration from Cinderella while still making it it's own story.
You can't help but fall in love with the characters, be sucked into the dramas and dilemmas, root for a happy ending, all while hoping that those that wrong Ella get what comes to them. I would recommend this book to anyone.
This was such a wonderful story and I can't find any fault in it.
