Audiobook version: The first hour is depressing, goes only a little into his symptoms and getting the cat but a lot about the unhealthy workplace where workers are shamed and the drama there and him getting fired and being bullied at the previous workplace. His parents expectations about his job. The cat is destructive and keeps getting him in trouble. There are some rather unpleasant characters shouting and being mean. There's a pretty disturbing story about the cats siblings dying of starvation when their owner died. Not the cosy slice of life magical realism read I was looking for! The narrator isn't good he keeps mispronouncing things, which had me trying to figure out what he meant every so often. Might be triggering if you have bad memories about your pets being ill, abused animals or lost a cat... I enjoy magical realism and what you are looking for is in the library, but this book is far more negative with no magical realism in chapter 1 and boring with too many unnecessary details in places. I wanted so much to like it.
More drama than expected with double accidental pregnancies and a miscarriage. Lucas like in the 1st book is moody and quite mean and sometimes rude. Shelby becomes more selfish in this book. The break up seemed so sudden and not thought out and unrealistic.
Boring in parts, the posh accent gets annoying and it's like she mispronounces things so at times difficult to understand. The dates with Roman are good. Quite a few character names to remember in the Royal family. The long descriptions of kissing are so cringey. Not as clean and wholesome as expected long descriptions of undressing, kissing and touching each other.
A slow start with quite a few characters, Mimi and her ballet career. Then it moves on to an alcoholic mother and her suffering child and bullying. It takes many chapters until we get to Paris. There's a lot of dialogue and it's not very good.
