It was very promising since I'm a really huge fan of carnivals, but Scarlett as the narrator didn't make me feel much better. Yes, her father traumatized her, but then all she did was even more mistakes. I didn't like how she sometimes makes decisions, it did not make her the protective older sister she making herself to be. While mistakes are needed to build a character, if this mistake gets repeated,  then what's the point of rooting for that person? In the end, I found myself liking Tella more, and I hope it doesn't change when I get to the second book.

With that said, I still like this book that I'm willing to continue reading the series while waiting for EvaJacks book 3—and that is the series I actually loved from Miss Garber. I'm still her fan. ♡♡

4 stars for the plot, 5 stars for Misha my love but 1 fucking star for Brie. GOD. I never thought I could hate her so much, PLEASE SHE FUCKING ANNOYED ME. I thought that she would be better because of the ending of book 1, but hell nah, she has managed to even become worse. I hate her so much, I've never been this mad!

Can the content warning be Brie herself?
-annoying
-put me through hell by her self-pity and loathing all the time
-she started out as very strong but turned out to be a dumb bitch
-she's so weak tbh, given her fucking powers, and when she gets mean, it's always out of place, girly being so mean to pretha at the start, BITCH WHAT. please she's even worse than juliette when she was still into adam.

the only good thing about this book was the addition of Misha and Amira—Amira is how you'd want Brie to be, strong but not mean, kind but not stupid. I loved her and Pretha more, LOL. Brie's character had so much potential for development, but she was just declining. I really expected her to be better, not dumber 😭

This book would have been way better if Brie's not the main character, or if she were written differently.

This book had the potential, and I really really liked the plot. It was unique but the execution was awful. I'm actually sad that I did not like it this much, especially since Ansel is my new found boy. It was also lacking in terms of Lou's magic, I know she's hiding, but I wanted to see more of her witch side. Aside from that, the book is way too long, I would have loved it if it were shorter. I still think that I would read the next books, and I just truly hope it gets better.

Aaron and Ella.

I am not insane.

Ms. Tahereh slayed once again, I already love Nazeera especially when she calls Juliette 'girl'.  Anyways, Juliette's body count? I am amazed.
