Like the movie this book is terrifying! If you’re not afraid by violence, devils, demons, obscenities, sex,... and you love the horror genre : this book is for you! I knew from the beginning that this book will be scary one: the little girl playing with a ouija board? Of course bad things will happen! (And every time stories involve young children, it scared the hell of me, more than with adult, I don’t know why !)

Le film m’avait fait flipper, et même terroriser (je n’ai d’ailleurs jamais vu la fin). Le livre est parfait si vous êtes adepte du genre horreur et n’avez pas peur de la violence, des démons, du sexe et de la vulgarité ! Sans avoir vu le film ni connaître l’histoire on se rend vite compte que ce récit va être effrayant : une petite fille qui joue avec une planche ouija ?! Rien de bien ne peut en découler !!!
(Et puis à chaque fois que des enfants sont impliqués dans des livres/films d’horreur je flippe encore plus)

I love to learn more about women (here teenagers/children) with amazing, inspiring and captivating destinies!
As mentioned above, this book focuses on young girls who have made something to our world within the last years (centuries ago as well as these past few years). It can be in the field of politics, the media, sports, art or computer science for example, in their own way they chose to bring something to the History and try to improve things, to make the world a better place or simply to shine and prove that they could reach their dreams!
Among these girls, I already knew about Anne Frank, Lorde, or Joan of Arc! For the others, I discovered them all thanks to this book and I really enjoyed their stories.
In particular the story of Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein. Everyone knows this novel but for me it stopped there, I didn’t know much about it. I admit that I sincerely thought that his author was a mature woman, and not at all! Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein when she was only 18 years old! Personally, I want to write a book since my childhood, so now I tell myself that I will really have to achieve this goal once and for all!
All these young girls make you want to give everything for what you love and what you want to accomplish, now I want to do more with my life!
I also really liked the illustrations, the portraits drawn in black and white, with bright colors in the background, a perfect mix for a really nice book to discover.
I can only advise this amazing book if you are interested in these kind of inspirational stories. It is intended for a public of 10 +. I learned a lot while reading it and I am delighted.

Un livre qui inspire mais qui m’a aussi permis de découvrir des jeunes filles fortes. Des récits qui donnent envie de se bouger et faire plus de sa vie !

🇺🇸 I finished “Baby Teeth” by Zoje Stage yesterday evening. It was a creepy read, but also an addictive one. Suzette is a wife and a mother. Hannah, her daughter, 7 years old, doesn’t talk yet. She loves her daddy. So much. Maybe too much. The thing is she hates her mother and wants to keep her daddy for herself. The only solution then, she will have to kill her mother! As a mother myself, it is particularly scary now 🤣😂 I loved the writing, and I loved how the story became darker and darker. (On sale July 17, 2018 - Thank you @netgalley & @stmartinspress )
🇫🇷 J’ai terminé ma lecture de “Baby Teeth” De Zoje Stage hier soir et j’ai adoré ce roman. Pour résumé l’histoire : Suzette, atteinte de la maladie de Crohn est mariée et maman d’une petite fille de 7 ans, Hannah. Cette dernière ne parle toujours pas, refuse d’aller à l’école, fait tout pour se faire exclure de chaque établissement et porte un amour inconditionnel pour son papa. Le problème c’est que cet amour est seulement pour son papa. Elle déteste sa maman et la voit comme un obstacle entre elle et son père. Il va donc falloir s’en débarrasser !!! Cette histoire est plutôt effrayante et en tant que maman moi-même ce n’est pas trop rassurant 🤣 Le style de l’auteur est agréable, le récit est raconté selon 2 points de vues : Hannah et Suzette. Et l’histoire devient vite addictive et de plus en plus sombre !!!

I wanted to read this book for a while. First, the cover is particularly gorgeous and fits the story perfectly. Then, of course, the description is really intriguing and makes you want to know more.
I want to thank the publisher for sending me the final copy of the book because I’m not going to make you wait any longer: I loved it!
The writing is special, I have seen a lot of negative comments on this particular aspect, but I personally liked it a lot.
The story is told according to three points of view: Merry (mother of Conor and housewife), Sam (the husband and father of Conor) and Franck (the best friend of Merry). They are all three hateful persons, it is impossible to like any of them I assure you.
We first meet Merry, who initially describes an idyllic life, a perfect marriage, a perfect family, a perfect life, … No one is fooled, perfection does not exist and often hides things that are a little darker. This is the case in this book. Merry is a stay-at-home mom so she is just taking care of the house and her baby since her delivery and moving to Sweden from the USA. We discover a cold character, hard to define, focusing on the appearance and hiding really dark things. (If you are currently expecting a baby or are a young mother a little sensitive, I do not advise this novel). His relationship with his son Conor seems different from what a mom/baby relationship is supposed to be. Too cold, inexistent.
Sam, Merry’s husband and Conor’s dad, is also a terrible character. He considers that the woman has to take care of the domestic tasks and the children. The husband is too busy working, he has other things to do of course (and yes, this kind of old-school relationship still exists, even in 2018…). Sam also hides some things that I let you discover.
Then we’ll meet Franck, Merry’s best friend since their tenderest childhoods. A special friendship that is only about competition, rivalry, jealousy, in short, a very unhealthy friendship.
The story is particularly sordid, the atmosphere is heavy, we know that something horrible will happen, we just don’t know when and what?!
I enjoyed reading this book, even if some scenes are difficult, they are sometimes real in some families… This novel addresses a subject that I am not used to read, and I must admit that I love this atmosphere in a novel. I like stories that make you react, disturb you, and with this book I was pleased.

Ce récit est un mélange d’Histoire, de Fantastique, de Conte. On retrouve de la romance, un peu de folie, du suspens, mais aussi de jolis moments d’amitié. Les personnages sont tous intéressants, peut-être pas assez développés cependant, mais je pense que l’on en apprendra plus sur chaque enfant, leurs histoires, dans la suite de cette saga.
J'ai vraiment accroché à cette histoire, originale et certes un peu enfantine. Je vais lire la suite avec plaisir, et à présent j'attends Septembre avec impatience pour découvrir l'adaptation de Burton, mon réalisateur chouchou :)

J’ai commencé ce livre totalement par hasard, je ne connais pas ce mannequin, mais ce dictat de la minceur m’ayant toujours dérangé (pour rester soft), j’ai pensé que cette autobiographie pourrait être intéressante.
Au final, oui elle l’est, on en apprend un peu plus sur ce métier, que beaucoup imaginent comme le métier de rêve. Pourtant, l’envers du décor est bien différent… Entre diète totale, solitude, stress, fatigue, la vie d’une jeune mannequin est quelque chose de lourd à supporter. Souvent très jeune, elles ne sont pas prévenues sur ce qui les attends, et en ressorte bien souvent anéantie.
Un livre certes intéressant, mais l’écriture et la façon de « penser » de Victoire, m’ont personnellement vite gonflée… Trop enfantine, trop répétitive, je ne saurais l’expliquer, mais quelque chose m’a dérangé.
Au final, je conseille ce roman si vous souhaitez découvrir l’envers du métier, mais sachez qu’il ne fera pas partie des livres m’ayant marqués…

Perfect for a "holiday and summer" or during a stressful period, just to think of something else and be entertained, or if like me, you do not have time to dive into something that asks a little more thought.
Ce roman rentre à 100% dans la catégorie « pas prise de tête ». Je n’ai pas été plus emballée que ça par l’histoire, Kate, le personnage principal m’a un peu agacée, mais la lecture est simple et c’est ce que je recherchais. Idéale pour une lecture « vacances » sans vouloir rabaisser le roman, ou pour une période stressante, histoire de penser à autre chose et se divertir, ou si tout simplement comme moi, vous n’avez pas le temps de vous plonger dans quelque chose qui demande un peu plus de réflexion. Sachant qu’avec Little Baby Boy, mais séances lectures sont de 10min par ci par là, ce genre de lecture me convient !
