3,5/5 (French Below)

In short, this book is a page-turner! Being written from Hannah's point of view (in the first person) allows us to fully immerse in the story and feeling even more. This thriller will keep you awake for sure, it reads very easily and very quickly. Not to mention the final twist that I did not see coming, at all, and that more or less "satisfied" me (the way the revelation was treated did not fully convince me).
------------

Difficile d’expliquer mon ressenti, j’avais certainement trop d’attente !

-------

The description intrigued me at the time: shooting in a high school. I wondered how the subject was going to be treated and living in the United States, without making generalities, it is something that remains unfortunately still relevant.
The story is from the point of view of several characters. Some passages are hard, even if this story is a fiction, this situation happened all too often.
The novel reads quickly, the writing is pleasant. But this is not a perfect read for me, I was disappointed...

2,5/5
This book is about school bullying, but not as I was imagined it… Here it’s not “average” people, but a popular girl who is concerned. Her reputation will be ruined and the harassing begin quickly after. I thought I would read a fiction about bullying that a lot of young people are dealing with these days. So, I admit I had a little trouble to sympathize with the misfortune of the heroine Regan … The character is not unpleasant, she will have to face a lot of trouble, and accommodate to her new life even if it’s not her desire. There is a little too much romance for my taste … I would have liked a more important development on a second harassment that we see in the background. The reading is fast, fluid, but not my favorite book about this subject…

This book reminded me of “13 reasons Why"
The subject of this book is the suicide of a high school girl as a result of school bullying. Something that is really important to talk about, today more than ever.
With the social media, school bullying has reached new heights. Insults, threats, mockery do not only take place within school, but now continue at home, it never stops. The victim feels like is life will never be good, the fear that it will never stops, and sometimes these feelings leads to suicide. Which is the case in this novel.
Here we follow Sam through his diary. He quickly reveals to us that he was one of the people insulting Morgan. He will also tell us how he got there. His meetings with Morgan, the moments he spent with her. He feels guilty of course and this diary is a way to express his feelings.
I liked this book, just and honest. The reading was easy and the writing enjoyable. And perhaps it will bring some people to think of this situation: victim, but especially bullier. Nobody has the right to persecute anyone. Kids are extremely mean to each other. High school is really hard for some people, so if that happens to you, you have to keep remembering that it will not last forever. There is light at the end of the tunnel. These kids do not reflect your future, they will not define your life! You have to talk, let people know what’s going on. And everything will work out.

Wintersong is a Fantasy novel, which is not something that I read a lot, but I really want to discover a little bit more of this genre. Well, I should not have chosen this one to start …

The cover is gorgeous, that’s for sure, it is just BEAUTIFUL. Too bad the story didn’t captivated me! I’ve heard a lot of good reviews on this book, and some bad reviews too, which makes me think that either we like it or hate it.

I was really bored during my reading, yet I loved the very first chapter, it was like a fairytale / a nursery rhyme, I said to myself ” yeah it’s all good, I will enjoy this book for sure”. Quickly, I was so disappointed. The characters did not convince me at all, I did not attach myself to any of them : Liesl, The Goblin King, Käthe, … no, really none of them retained my sympathy.

The story is extremely melancholic, punctuated by music that only add melancholy to the darkness … and even if I came out deeply bored, I also had that touch of sadness and despair that remained… even after I finished the book.

The only thing that I appreciated was this notion of legends, told by the ancestors, and the story of the Goblins interested me a lot. But unfortunately, we do not learn a lot of things about them, everything remains evasive and superficial.

I did not expect much from this book. I chose to start reading it without thinking too much and I enjoyed it !

From the first pages we find a lot of “clichés”, the shy girl, with a lack of confidence. The handsome neighbor, beautiful and sexy as hell, mysterious and of course extremely arrogant. But I assure you, you have to go through these “clichés”.

The writing is fluid, this book is really addictive. Little bit by little bit, we learn more about these mysterious neighbors, Daemon Black (yes even the names are “clichés” …) and his twin sister Dee. We quickly suspect that something is not normal. It’s difficult not to think of twilight in some scenes, but I must say that I prefer the mood and the story of Lux for now.

Once the mystery around Daemon and Dee is revealed (and it’s pretty surprising, it’s original (don’t read the book description on goodreads if you don’t want to be spoiled)), the action can start, the plot is really entertaining!

I really liked this first book, an addictive reading, characters that are quite pleasant, I will obviously read the rest of this series (which has 5 books I believe, without counting parallel novels to the basic story)

Well, even if the plot is pretty interesting, this book did not please me …
I didn’t like the writing of the author. I did not care at all about the characters, not even one, which is a rare thing for me … And I was a little bored, I must admit, the story did not passionate me much, I continue to read it, just to know the end of the story, which was quite predictable.
A romance a little fantastic, since here Lucas, one of the main characters says to Juliet: “he has already lived a lot of the moments with her, some that had not yet happened”. Like a kind of memories, coming straight from the future … (difficult to explain)
I can not say much more, because 1 / the novel is quite short 2 / there is not a lot to talk about 3 / it would be a pity to spoil the little bit of the plot …
In short, it is clearly not a favorite. I hope one day, I will find a romance that I’ll loved …

I have heard so much about this book/this series, so many good reviews, that I think I have set my expectations a little bit too high… It took me so long to be hooked by the story. Maybe it’s because of the writing, maybe it’s the characters, I don’t really know… but the plot had intrigued me at first, so I’m a little disappointed.

Shades of Magic begins slowly, everything is set up. We meet little by little the main characters. The author introduces us to her world, and we learn that there are 4 different London: Grey London, the one where all magic has disappeared (or almost), Red London, where the magic survives and where it is nice to live, White London, here the magic reigns and causes many problems and desires for power, and finally Black London, a London that was separated from others long time ago, a world where magic had taken power and destroyed everything.

We will also meet the two main characters: Kell who belongs to Red London. He is a special protagonist since he is an Antari : one of the strongest magicians, able to cross between the different Londons. Then we will get to know Lila Bard. Coming from Grey London, she is a thieft and dreams of adventures.

Apart from these two characters, we will also get to know Rhy, the prince of Red London, and “brother” of Kell. Holland, the second Antari existing across the different worlds, he lives in White London. And Astrid and Athos Dane, the brothers and sisters who reign over White London. And of course, many others !

As you can see the universe is extremely rich. The plot also: Kell will pass an object that belonged to Black London between the worlds (which is totally forbidden). This object contains an extremely powerful black magic, and it will cause many deaths. So he will want to go to Black London to destroy it.

But, only the last 100 pages get me hooked… (on a total of 400) … It’s a shame, I hear so many good reviews about this novel .. I don’t know if I will read the next two books, because I do not want to give up and I really want to love this series, but on the other hand, I’m afraid of “losing” my time with a story that does not speak to me …

However, I can only advise you to read it and make your own opinion, because I am clearly part of a minority with this review.

I really liked this book whose action takes place within a family. It is separated into several points of view : Lydia, Sophie, Darcy and Rowan (if I’m not mistaken …).

Lydia, suffer from an incurable cancer and she chose to keep it secret. She has always written a diary, as long as she can remember, and during her last moments of life, she decides to confess, to write everything that she feels guilty about in these diaries. But then she wants to get rid of her diaries, she fears that someone around her will find and read them. And of course, she doesn’t want to disappoint her family. Helas, she will not have time, and will die before.

In her dairies, we learn that she blames herself for something that happened years ago.

Next to that, we will follow the story of Sophie, who has just given birth to her 4th child. She struggles in her everyday life against her past mistakes.

The whole family decides to meet in a country house, to disperse the ashes of Lydia who died a few months earlier.

It is from this moment that everything will start. The kidnapping of Sophie’s baby takes place. Is it the work of a simple ransom-hunter or a diabolic plan set up years ago? Who wants to make them suffer? But especially why?

This novel kept me up at night. The writing is fluid, the characters super interesting. Only small disappointment, the end, a little too simple for my taste …
