Surprised I finished this. Writing isn't horrible but it rubbed me the wrong way. Just kinda felt like a fanfic in a bad way? Like the characters were underdeveloped and the first version of the story was lying on readers familiarity to fill in gaps and lay context that we don't get in the book.

But it was mostly cute and I did think it was a solid romance set up.

I'm intrigued by the little world building elements. There is something to it, I just wish it was explored more on all fronts.

Idk if I want to continue but the first two were fine.

I have been in a book slump and this series is helping. It's such easy reading and good dirty fun.

The writing flows well but there's lots of intentionally weird phrasing that just takes me out. Like gives me the ick.

Will continue

Holy shit. This is the best fantasy short story I've ever read.

A very fun addition to the series! I enjoyed the banter and getting to see into the Elves realm and the deepened lore for this version of earth.

It was also easy reading comparatively, felt much less dark than the others. But I kind of missed that bite and drama

I have read and loved other Jade West books but this was a miss for me. The characters and* the spicy scenes just did not feel well written. Instead of being a fun romp it felt like. . .over the top and kinda boring at the same time.

One positive is that the stakes felt very high. So i did want to finish.

This book had a really engrossing cast and like the last Riley Sager I read I found it hard to put down.

I did think some of the final twists weren't revealed in the best ways and that too many were packed into the last 50 pages.

Also despite how off kilter they were I called some twists way too early lol you want to figure it out right before the protagonist not like 100 pages in.

Still though. Very readable. Amd I liked the final ending

I love T. Kingfisher's writing. I genuinely think they do some of the best plot and character work I have read.

I knew what it was almost immediately but that knowledge didn't do anything to make I less creepy. And I can't wait for my next adventure with Easton.

Tbh this book is a little hokey. I knew it from the start but I ate it up. Very gothic style drama. The hateable characters are so hateable and loveable ones so loveable.

I did not figure out the twists at the end. But I also just thought they were bad lol.

It was unputdownable though!

This would have been a 5 but the last chapter! I've read the last minute internal villain reveal more than once this year but it was just a real let down this time. Unnecessary and undercut the story.

But the rest was great I genuinely flew through it. Loved the characters and couldn't put together all the working parts into the full picture. So it stayed fresh
