This was soo boring! Writing a review without spoilers can't possibly describe why I'm so angry.
First of all, at least half of it is useless. You don't need to say EVERY SINGLE THING she did at her internship, because it doesn't matter in end. Some entries felt like "Day 23. Today I ate a sandwich. It was pretty good."
Then I don't understand this monotone writing... this ghostwriter couldn't even keep me entertained. You need to make me think she actually deserves it.
You need to put a lot of work into writing characters that are very smart. This book reeks of plot holes and inconsistencies. In the end you are asking yourself why did I even read this?
It's clear that the author intended for you to re-read the book to see "the clues", but they are so obvious I was literally getting the ick every time. To be honest, I didn't guess the twist because it's so arrogant in its approach that it actually reverts back to dumb.
Finally spoiler section. I don't understand who thought the ending was a good idea. From what I understand which is a random question on Goodreads, because the plot wasn't explained or confirmed anywhere, is that Lora dies at the 35% mark and Olesya was the one writing the diary entries for the rest of the book. But like why? The purpose of the journal was to make the FBI think Lora is innocent. How would Olesya know she'd need it? How did she escape in the first place? How did she disguise herself to fool the FBI that she was 2 different people? Yes, she wrote that they looked similar in the scene with the wig, but it was for the reader. The FBI didn't know that yet. Did they arrest her with her entire make-up kit? Why would she leave a note? To incriminate herself and then convice them her new identity is innocent. She could've waited to get the money from the book deal. They think Olesya is on the run, now they just add possibly dead. Why did she leave to Moscow at the end using Lora's name when she is supposed to be with her parents? I'm pretty sure they would check especially when their suspect is an expert in identity theft. She said she bought a passport when she was in Russia why couldn't she do it again? If she was writing the stories the entire time why couldn't she publish as Daphne or leave as Daphne? Who was her father? What was the purpose of the brother denying that it was their father? Just to add sketchy shit? For what? I understand that some of these questions can be brushed off by saying it's an unreliable narrator, but I just feel like it's lazy writing. This was a book made to waste your time.
Conclusion don't read it. I didn't watch Inventing Anna, but it has to be better than whatever this was.

Very few mystery books I've read had an ending I've enjoyed...This ain't one of them.
I don't think we learned enough about any of the characters to be enough of an emotional push for the book to end like it did.
