the writing was fabulous, but that was the only truly interesting thing in this book. the characters were boring, the plot was uninteresting, etc. etc. i was very disappointed with this book
kristin hannah simply doesn’t miss.
this is a topic i knew very little about, and loved learning about it. as usual, her characters are beautiful written, and the way she melds history into a modern book is remarkable. the post-war era was incredible and eye-opening. although the ending(her reunion with jamie) both felt predictable and forced, a comment i’ve made on all three of her books now, it’s satisfying nonetheless. nor does it take away from the magic of the book

the way this book took systemic racism and bundled it into a powerful story with wonderful characters was truly perfect. this book had me crying (it’s not sad - my empathy takes over all of my rationality at points). during, what i viewed as the climax when dev and chi discovered who was behind everything i legitimately cried. this book was nearly perfect- my only issue being that the ending felt slightly rushed. i don’t mind a story being left feeling unfinished, but something about the last 50 pages were just a bit disappointing for me.
overall, it’s amazing that this author was able to pack in such a powerful/important/HEAVY theme into a YA book but i loved it

this book was a little weird - but it was weird in the best ways. the story itself was strange and beautiful, but the love letters were immensely beautiful. i would read this book just to read the letters and would happily read the letters over and over.
not a typical romance, but one of my favorites nonetheless.

this book was written beautifully and did a wonderful job at encapsulating the thoughts and mind of someone grieving.
