this book was literally awful

i was so surprised by the ending of this book because it felt so…”that’s it?”

i enjoyed the concept, and a lot of the authors narration was interesting. so many of her stories were so informative in so many ways - the perspective of an ER doc was cool to read about.

but it never felt like it was really wrapped up in any meaningful way - so many of the stories were just that. the title felt misleading because of this. overall a decent memoir.

sitting in my kitchen crying over an octopus

i liked all of the characters, though some more than others. i thought the flaws of them (*cough cough* cameron) were a bit blatant and got frustrating, but i appreciated his character development - although i wish he were a little better from the get-go. i found him being so whiny to be a little exhausting. i loved Tova, her stubborn attitude reminded me of my grandmother in a lot of ways, which was a nice touch.

the story itself was somewhat predictable, but that didn’t bother me in the end. despite its predictability, the story was well-told and touching. i was not expecting to cry at the end of this novel, but i really really did. although at points this seemed like too many coincidences, it reminded me of times in my own life when it seemed like the coincidences were too perfect. ultimately i’m saying it was coincidental but believable.

i liked that the ending wasn’t wrapped up perfectly, which a lot of books like this typically try and force. i really enjoyed this book.

listening to this series is the best recommendation i can give. i love this story and these characters, but it is long and exhausting when you aren’t listening to it (in my opinion). it’s still wonderful but it’s much more enjoyable when you can listen while doing other things.

i love clare and jamie, but liked the new relationship dynamic added into the mix.

cute.

the characters were a bit frustrating for me, like many people who fail to acknowledge their trauma tend to be. but overall i thought she did a good job capturing trauma and trauma response, in my opinion.

it was a cute romance with a relationship you want to root for, but it’s likely i won’t remember much about it in a week. so basically it was cute but nothing remarkable or ground-breaking
