Blood Orange

DID NOT FINISH

Couldn't find a fuck to give

I found this book to be a truly magical read - it was both devastating and uplifting. World War II books are almost always upsetting to some degree, and this was no different.

The real meat and potatoes of this book are in the characters. Both Vianne and Isabelle were beautiful characters, in their stories and their depths. I loved falling in love with both of these sisters, despite their differences. The character development of each sister was empowering and beautiful, set in the backdrop of German-occupied France it was the strength of this book.

The biggest qualm that I had with this book was the ending. Although it did make me cry (empathy is a hell of a drug), the ending felt forced in a way. There were plenty of cliches littered through the book, but it honestly didn't bother me much.

I thought this book was beautiful, and loved that it was based on the unsung stories of heroines in World War II.

average - this book was average. there was nothing particularly interesting or memorable about this book whatsoever.

it was a fine pallet cleanser, but there are better small town romance books out there.

the characters were *meh* and the world was dull. it didn’t bring you into a community the way many other books in the genre do. it also didn’t make you fall in love with the characters, which is something i also expect in the genre.

i think every time i see the word beguiled i am going to think of this book. clearly the woman found a new vocab word as she was writing this, and was unafraid to use it 🫠

i cannot fathom this book getting the amount of hype and praise as it did. literally cannot wrap my mind around it.

it is so obvious that the book started out as a twilight fanfic - the writing is reflective of the wattpad fanfics i read when i was 13. i refuse to believe this was written by a grown ass woman - how can a book this popular be this awful?

the characters were infuriating and bland, the sex scenes were plentiful but mediocre, the story felt stalled and dull. INNER GODDESS. SHE HAS AN INNER FUCKING GODDESS. jesus christ we get it

i read this book because of the hype around it, but wasn’t expecting much, yet i still managed to be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this book. Its dark (and important!!) themes were made lighter with the humor throughout the novel.

I was surprised by how sad I felt at the end of this series, despite not feeling particularly in-love with any of the characters. It is what it is.

I liked Vance and Lyla but I can almost guarantee I'll forget all about them in a week

Another frustrating book by Devney Perry. I had such a love/hate relationship with Jasper Vale and still don't quite know how to feel about him....

The way I wanted to punch both these characters in the face

Maybe it's baby fever, but the single-parent romance books just do it for me. I enjoyed Memphis and liked Knox, but there are better small-town romance books in this same sector. That being said, the thrilling element that Perry adds to her books makes them addicting as f*ck
