Absolutely loved this time travel book about bringing back several historical figures to be part of the Ministry of Time in. Great Britain. Arctic Explorer Graham Gore was a real person, a Second Left Lieutenant in the Royal British Navy and part of the fated Franklin Expedition through the Northwest Passage. The Main Character is Cat, a Ministry employee hired as his Bridge to understand the modern world. The two of them discover that the Ministry’s time door goes both directions, back and forward, and that the Ministry and those within it are not always what they seem.
Time travel books really are my favorites. I loved this book for the story and the writing. I was invested in the characters and their lives throughout the story. The end was satisfying.

This is a delightful, cozy, found family story with rotating POV, including from that of Cat. Cat is a feral street kitty fed by Nuria and the neighborhood mailman. Cat and Nuria eventually draw Collin, Lily, Bong, and Omar together in a lightly dramatic plot.
Reformation book club pick— was too long and kind of boring.

In Madeoman, we meet Clove, stressed out mom of a 7 and 3 year old who calms her considerable anxiety by hanging out in health food grocery stores and online shopping. While trying to squeeze in just one more errand to the post office, Clove’s past comes roaring back in the form of a letter from her mother sent from a California correctional facility. Clove has built her life around the single goal of safety for herself and her children. It has meant repressing her childhood and lying about her past.
I felt conflicted for and by some of Cloves choices. I liked the tension and the twists, but I didn’t think the resolution was satisfying or realistic, especially w/r/t her husband. I could have used a bit more of the aftermath of the story.

The Night Circus, read by Jim Dale, was captivating and original. It is a sort of comforting book where there are some bad or questionable motives, but no one is evil. I liked the converging timelines. 4.5 instead of 5 because I was a bit confused by the second person perspective chapters.

This book is sweet, funny, sad, and mostly true. Sophie Kinsella writes in her author’s note that this was a fictional version of her own cancer journey. Very sad, but also hopeful. Plus this book pushed me out of a slump and I am glad of it.
Moderate: Cancer
Slow story, great concept that took too long to unfold, lacked sense of urgency.

Read aloud to my 11 year old. This was a fun story with a simple, good plot. We both liked the silliness of some of the antics of the character Mullet Fingers.

Listening to this book it is clear Nancy Pelosi understands her power. She gives unvarnished, behind the scenes accounts of major legislation and historical events over the past 30 plus years of her service in the house. I especially learned a lot in the sections on the 9-11 commission and the Iraq War. Her accounts about Trump are also unflinching.
