I was impressed with how smooth the transitions were between the coauthors but still found myself disappointed in the quality of the writing overall and I agree with many of the 3 star reviews BUT !!! There was still potential and this was exactly the sapphic rom com teenage me needed in her life! Maybe if I read this when I was younger I wouldn’t have commitment issues?? It healed my lovesick heart and for that I have to give it 5 stars

Didn’t hit me as hard as telegraph club but still a beautiful messy story of self discovery. Malinda lo knows how to capture the emotional queer experience. It felt like it dragged in places that the prior book didn’t and listening to the audio the voice actor for steph sounded like she was straining her voice and it took me out of it.

Twas better than the first, lots of the same criticisms I had for the first book (kinda cheesy, character inconsistencies, overall rushed story) but I felt like the side characters in this one were more compelling and the political aspect was far more intriguing. Kinda popped off

The avatarverse is for the sapphics!!! This was a bop, but it felt a bit too rushed and tooo many convenient plot moments for my liking. The writing was v good tho and didn’t feel like a cash grab. There were good ideas I just wanted it to be fleshed out more for how long this book was. I love kyoshi my earth queen 😭🥰🤭🫡😤

also the brutal murders tho ??? I loved it keep traumatizing them kids

I’m still reeling over this. Understated in its melancholy. Captures the entanglement of sweet summer love and the hollowing of the soul in the wake of grief. The sad gay girls take another win 😔🫡

No But fr Nina are you good ??!!? Get some help

Okay yall this was not morally grey lesbians im sorry they tried but they were morally pretty pure or at least more pure than I would expect from an adult book. It’s very clear the two main characters were Malini and Priya but like… what’s the point of everyone else’s pov if you’re not gonna treat them like an ensemble cast ya know ?? I’m invested in the world and the 2 real main characters so imma read the sequel this just felt very much like a trial run BUT it had potential 🧐

Yeah okay, maybe I don’t hate love.

While the romance in this book was beautiful and is what everyone came for, what really got to me was themes of family abandonment and loss and finding hope for queer people growing up in a time where we can find acceptance when many of our lineage couldn’t.

This book just hit different did it still have some of that cringy romance tropes I can’t help but roll my eyes at ? Yeah. Was the sci fi/fantasy ending absolute bullshit? Yeah. Did it pull on my ice cold bitter heartstrings? Absolutely.
