I enjoyed the pacing and flashback format throughout this, and while it was nothing life changing, I liked being lead through the story as information unfolded.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

informative reflective fast-paced
While I appreciated the general points made in the book (though I wouldn’t say there was anything revolutionary in there), the tone of the book was very much directed to the male gaze. Despite Manson preaching the opposite, a lot of the takes in this reeked of misogyny and ageism. I don’t care about the swearing- that obviously made it relatable and palatable enough to be marketable to people this content wouldn’t usually reach- but other elements made it an uncomfortable read.
White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo

I wouldn’t have read this if I had known the author was white. That was definitely my mistake for assuming otherwise. I felt uncomfortable with her borderline white savour preachings. I was continually conflicted between appreciating the fact that this work was not another burden on a POC who had to do the emotional labour to teach white people what we should already know, and being concerned that this was offered from the perspective of someone with no experience of suffering from the very topic she speaks of.

I really loved this dark, honest, hilarious memoir. The audiobook in particular was made even more enjoyable by hearing the laughter and self deprecation in Lou’s own voice.

Not the worst thing I’ve ever read, but I have definitely read better fluffy rom-coms than this. It just lacked depth and some overall oomph.

Something about this felt like Erin Morgenstern’s The Starless Sea. They share the same whimsy and nonsensicality, which I love, but I can’t honestly say I knew 100% what was happening the whole way through the novel.

I really enjoyed this whole novel! I couldn’t wait to pick it back up each time! For some reason I was under the impression this was a rom-com with a vampire (maybe the cover??) but I wasn’t disappointed when I realised eventually that it wasn’t lol
