Hilarious and devastating in equal measure. I hate to think how things are even worse for those working for the nhs now.

As always, despite intentionally going into his works with as few expectations as possible, McEwan still manages to shatter any that I had.

The perspective of this novel is unquestionably strange, and truth be told I’ve struggled to grasp the underlying meaning of it on this occasion, but I still had an enjoyable experience reading it!

I’ve never read anything like it before, and though I could have done without the foetal narrative of sex, I found the story fascinating.

Stunning.

The way Caleb describes music and art and food and dancing, is just absolutely mesmerising.

I admire the author for his choices to write the raw emotional honesty of black men on their journeys to self expression, and the portrayal of the plethora of reasons that resist them doing so.

I will eagerly devour everything that comes out in the future!

This was just fine. Didn’t love the insta love thing- I never do. I had expected some more friction between the 2 main characters but really they were like besties straight away.

As unexpected as all of Ian’s work!  Can’t fault the writing, but just wasn’t my favourite overall!
