jon is gay, right? and his bf bought odie. i only have evidence to back my theory. read this book n get back to me <3 i didn’t realize that garfield and odie have had so many facelifts, they don’t even look like the same people.
this would be a five star review, but i feel like there were just enough lame comic strips to warrant such a rating
also, i’m consuming a buncha Garfield media leading up to the theatrical release of “Garfield” (2024). this is pt. 1 in such a saga
I read this to Caleb today, and he hasn’t seen the movie yet, so i’m interested to get his opinion on such now that he’s read the book. i’ve never actually met anyone who’s read the book before having seen Shrek (2001).
the film is such a different take on this material than the book. Yet, they still managed to use most of the source material in the DreamWorks film. i was surprised how similar these ended up being in the end, especially for how much is different.
i must preface by saying i am an adult and i did not willingly choose to read this book. my little brother, Caleb (10), insisted he read this to me because he remembered it fondly. for him, it did not disappoint! Needless to say, he loved it.
this book wasn’t offensive or anything, but it wasn’t anything special. it’s not narratively challenging or anything particularly memorable. i did appreciate that one of Walter’s farts was so strong it flew someone’s dessert into their face. that was disgusting and it borderline felt like it was going too far, and i love it for that. i don’t like fart jokes though, i think they’re just too easy.
Walter The Farting Dog: Banned From The Beach doesn’t willingly make itself about loving others regardless of unsavory medical conditions, it’s just about a gross farting dog so i can’t really love it or applaud it for that… it’s just a basic children’s story book, but it’s goofy :’)
this is such a cute comic. My little brother, Caleb, and i love the Netflix series, so i picked up the first 5 issues. The characters’ appearances vary from panel to panel, but the story carries everything so who cares! i love the pacing and the little details tacked on to build the world. i want to learn more about Hilda’s deerfox, i hope it comes up in the next few issues!
i think i like this art style more than the Netflix series because it’s more angular and the colors are a lot more muted. i also think her portrayal in this as a stubborn adventurous-wannabe (that hopefully evolves into an adventurer) is much more interesting than her portrayal in the series. She’s a little too competent in the series, it doesn’t portray Hilda growing. She’s ready to start straight from the jump in episode one. i’m excited to see where this comic series goes!
i loved all the pop culture references and the cutesy character designs really add to the humor that all the explicit content tends to be. i particularly liked the promo-ing for the phantom menace, and how it’s not actually about the film at all because it’s a comic strip. i especially like the strips where Aaron McGruder makes a huge block of text and pretends the comic was redacted lol
