Book: The wise man said
Author: Priya Kumar
Genre: Motivational Self-help
Pages: 180
Rating: 3.42/5

The wise man said by Priya Kumar starts with the story of Naina Seth, a bestselling author who has to send her editor her new book the next day which she is promising her for a long time but hasn't written a single word! And how then she starts wandering to the places near her stay which she hasn't discovered earlier and how she meet there Sammy, an 80-year-old man, a billionaire businessman, who travels and wanders for eleven months of the year and give one month to his business empire. Sammy is not any ordinary old man, his appearance is uncommon, his words have stability and his voice shows his experience and deepness about this world! And then both of them had some deep conversation and when Naina was sleeping, Sammy left the place but kept his diary there for her. And the book from there is a diary of that old man and about his adventures and discoveries and lessons!

With each place he visited, the diary entry shows his experience and learnings from that particular places and people he got and after each entry, there are things that he have not thought earlier written with additional things and thoughts and learnings as P.S, P.P.S and so on just like the diary entries are!

I liked how the book started and let the readers know about Naina was something that was well written and should be appreciated. The writing style is simple yet engaging and makes it an easy read which can be finished in a sitting or two. How the experiences of Sammy in the journey are written is worthy to read and makes you travel to a lot of places through them.

While with some stories, I could connect and feel like there is so much to take from it, with some, I just don't feel connected and it felt to be a little impractical in daily life to apply which can not be the case with everyone, as it depends on individual choices and thought process. I felt that at the end, where Naina seeks answers to her questions through the diary needed more time, realization, and conversations with herself as to how she got it, which I felt was done in a hurry and that is where it lacks to make the connection with me as a reader, on both the emotional and motivational level.
Overall, it was a good one-time read for me.

Don’t we see or hear this line in the big bold letters on many YouTube videos to gain attention? Well, I’m doing the same here, but the only difference is that I mean it here as well!

The Crochet is a debut novel by author Raman Agarwal, a story that took the author more than a decade to write, and it is surely reflected in the story and the writing style.

I am that person who likes the core of the story more than the plot, and character development even more than the core! And this book excels itself in all these three, especially in the character development and portrayal, which make it one of my favorites of this year for sure!

The Crochet is the story of Tahir:
•A boy who lives in Jahangirpuri (to make it simpler, it’s a “refugee colony”) and so you can understand by the fact that what consequences it reflects in the society and people around him to make a perception about him and behave accordingly!
• A boy who loves writing poems and finds solace in words. He takes part in many competition and stand a good chance there as well, but came always second!
• A boy whose social group and friend circle is almost negligible and he is misunderstood by his peers!
• A boy whose dynamics in the family are not straightforward but get entangled with time and situations!
And there is much more to this character! You cannot restrict Tahir in some boundaries and features, he is much more of it! I remember before reading the book, the author told me that “I hope Tahir speaks to you the way he did to me!” But I just want to add here, that Tahir not only speaks how he speaks to the author, but Tahir is different for all of us and he speaks differently with each one of us!

Talking about the writing style of the author, the only word that pops up in my mind is “exquisite”, from the first page to the last, it feels like from somewhere Aladdin’s Djinn came, and with the smoke, it creates, transverse us into this another world of beautiful writing, with the things, situations and people around us! By the way, since I have referred to Aladdin here, the author has gracefully given many references, which if you know, you will get it instantly, or you might have to do a bit of work(as I did many times

BOOK REVIEW

Book: The Curse Of Kuldhara
Author: Richa S. Mukherjee
Genre: Mystery/Crime Fiction
Pages: 334

The Curse Of Kuldhara by Richa S. Mukherjee is the second book in the Kanpur Khoofiya Pvt. Ltd. Series.
Prachand Tripathi, our desi detective, the owner of Kanpur Khoofiya Pvt. Ltd. Is here and with the fame that he got from his previous cases, is a known face now. His wife Vidya Tripathi, who is a partner and finance head at the company, thinks they deserve much more than they are getting. Amidst all the idiotic clients and ridiculous cases they were getting, one offer came which make them consider it, an offer of a movie, based on them, offered by a politician! And when they accepted the offer and went to the location, that is Kuldhara, that’s when things started brewing. There are movie sets, desert, ghosts, ancient tales, and “murder”!
To get to know more about it, read the book!

Although the book is 300-plus pages, it didn’t take much time for me to finish it. Written in easy and engaging language, it was definitely a book that can hook your interest from the first to the last page! The book is written in such a way that people who haven’t read the first part can still read it and enjoy it, which was the case with me.

The writing style of the author is remarkable and the pinch of humour, fun, and wit that she adds in between is something that stands out! The addition of regional words, dialogues, and local texture was something that I liked the most in the book. The dialogues between Rachna Tripathi, Prachand’s mother, and Ammaji, his grandmother were really adorable and can give you a stock of laughter.

I liked the character of Ammaji the most, she stands out and makes a way for herself in whatever little space that is given to her, and she shines in it! I feel there are so many layers in her character which could be explored and I think there could be an altogether different book for her, please take my hint, dear author!

Many other characters stand out very well for me, namely Inspector Gupta and Dinanath Tripathi but some could be explored a little more, specially Yatish and Vidya, or maybe it happened because I haven’t read the first part, which reminds me to read it as soon as possible.

The author has curated the part of the mystery very well and maintained it till the end and let the reader guess what will happen next! Although I was able to predict the ending and the murderer part, it doesn’t mean that the stings that she pulled were loose, it was a guess which could have gone wrong as well, but it didn’t! The last page was something that I haven’t seen coming and that is something that makes me curious and restless for the next part of the series!

Apart from the mystery, thriller, and suspense part of the book, there are some issues that the author touched on like relationships, politics in the official work and departments, and touched some very slightly like that of child labour, family dynamics, and friendship, which keeps the reader think and wonder, which I liked. I really loved the chemistry between Prachand and Vidya!

Overall, it is definitely a book that I will recommend to you if you want to read some desi crime thriller and mystery because the Indian texture was something that gives this book a unique identity and makes it different from any other book! I will give it 4 out of 5 stars.
