I feel so bad for Will. He had his reasons to keep everyone besides Jem far away. He was doing his best to finally get rid of his curse, not knowing that his parabatai and the girl he loved were becoming closer. Will was so happy that he could finally show his feelings for Tessa. Will might not have been able to admit her feelings to her but he was able to show it in other ways, like reading a book he thought was her favorite book.
There wasn't as much Will as I wish there were but I'm glad Jem was always there for Tessa when he wasn't sick or avoiding her while everyone else were too busy. Jem just wasn't as confident as Will and had a hard time getting out of friend zone.
Then there's Tessa whose completely confused by her feelings. There's Jem's always sweet, kind and optimistic (unless you count the one time he lost his temper with Will). But then Will is hot and cold towards her and she can't help but love him too. I couldn't help but feel bad for her too. She thought that Will thought that she was worth nothing but kept showing her that he has feelings for her just to take it back every time by his mean words.
The friendships are so good in this series. Like I love the friendship between Jem and Will. They're also there for each other. But I also really enjoyed seeing Tessa and Sophie bond.
I loved all the romances in this book. Will and Tessa had some amazing scenes. Jem and Tessa had such sweet moments. But I think I was more excited for side couples as we hadn't see them as much yet.
Gideon came back from Spain for Gabriel but Sophie is the one who was able to bring him joy. I absolutely loved how he immediately believed what she told him and chose the right thing to do over his father. Sophie is the most trustworthy person to him-- even more so that his own family. It was so heartbreaking how worried Sophie was for him to see her as she really is, a servant.
Poor Henry is such a cinnamon roll and even if he can be too focused on his inventions, he clearly loves everyone at the institute. It was so heartbreaking how Henry and Charlotte both thought that their love was one sided but really they were each other's first choice. Henry has always loved Charlotte (and it was so adorable how he called her Lottie) and she would give up the Institute in a moment before she would give him up.
All in all I was so sucked into this book that I finished in a day. Every time I read this book I have such a hard time to choose between Will and Jem. I love Will a little bit more but they are both great love interests to Tessa. If this was adult romance I don't think I would mind if they were all together. But alas I'm glad Tessa got her time with both and how much Jem and Will love each other.
You might say that you don't like Cassandra Clare or Shadowhunter world but please for your own sake try The Infernal Devices. I can't recommend this series enough. It's not only fantasy with vampires and demons but it's set in 1800s. I wouldn't say that I enjoy historical romance but I just love the world Cassandra Clare has created n this series.
