Beneath Dark Water by Nancy Connor

Very very good! Nicely suspenseful. It's unusual for me to read a fiction novel written mostly in the first person, but since I was listening to this as an audio book it really "made" the story for me. I felt like the main character was really telling me the story. I fell in love with the characters, although Child's character could have been developed a little better.

The book itself was good, but a little wordy. The ending, however, sucked. I did not feel closure when I put it down. Overall, the plot was very good... but not much suspense and again, the ending sucked.

This book was really really interesting!!!!! I loved how the author spoke about the way his parents hands moved with so much beauty, and the openness with which he shared his feelings about the things he experienced as the child of two deaf parents and the brother of a child with epilepsy.

Although this book was very educational, I really cannot say I enjoyed it. I learned a lot about how sign language works as a language, and how children's brains are affected if they don't acquire language... but it was very dry reading.

In all honesty, I can't say I deeply enjoyed this book. It was informative in a way, but it jumped from character to character quite a bit, which always annoys me. It also had a very negative tone... like the author was working so hard to try and become part of deaf culture and could just never find her way in. That was really sad.
