The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

This novel was a totally cute, quick read. As a dog lover, I am naturally drawn to anything with a dog on it, and this book with a dog head on it was no different. Plus, it's actually written in the perspective of a dog! I figured I couldn't go wrong, and I was right.

This book tells the tale of Enzo, a lab mix that believes he is going to be reincarnated into a human after his death. Enzo is not your ordinary dog; he can't talk, of course, and he has no thumbs, but he understands everything going on around him, and if he had a voice synthesizer like Stephen Hawking, he may have even been able to communicate... but that's debatable.

Although this is more a human's tale from a dog's perspective, it was charming and cute. I'd recommend anyone that reads it and loves it to also read "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron, also.

I am never one to stop reading a book once I start it, but I was just not a fan of this novel AT ALL. I am surprised I made it through 49 very boring pages.

"But sometimes the best thing is just to learn your lesson and make sure you never get in the same position again" (Franzen 47) is what a lead character's father told her after he found out she had been raped, and I will remember those completely unrealistic words of advice if I am ever again tempted to read a Jonathan Franzen novel. Touché, Mr. Franzen! Well played!
