i will never not be floored by a taylor jenkins reid novel, regardless of how simplistic some might say her books are. it’s one of the many reasons why i love her so much; i know i can get so invested that i finish it in a day. the quality of writing goes to show that this was one of her earlier books, but nonetheless i wasn’t deterred from the story of emma and how she navigates such an impossible situation. i so greatly admire TJR’s ability to write simply real characters in situations that seem ridiculous but are entirely possible. if anyone is ever wondering what book to get me, get me a TJR book. just make sure i haven’t read it first— the list of her unread books is starting to dwindle!

this is the first book that i, regrettably, struggled to get into this year. the first few chapters were certainly attention grabbing and set up the characters and story incredibly, but for some reason it took me much longer than that to become truly invested in the narrative rebecca roanhorse crafted. i was very glad when i finally did though. poe’s determination to right his wrongs that he committed during the last jedi and the guilt he carries makes him an even more interesting character than what was brought forth on the big screen, which frankly i thought was impossible because he’s my favorite sequels character and oscar isaac is nothing short of incredible. i loved the return of a character from bloodline by claudia gray! that made me very very happy and made the first order POV worth reading. i also enjoyed the name drops and a couple of featured characters. i wasn’t completely blown away but i enjoyed reading this immensely!

this book was an artfully crafted narrative following princess leia’s political dealings amidst a slowly (but surely) collapsing galactic senate. claudia gray introduces a colorful cast of original characters that create a brilliant ensemble and dedicated force to leia throughout the course of the novel. this book came to me highly recommended by my fellow star wars lovers and they have not steered me wrong. the character development was impeccable. the end made me teary, for a number of reasons. leia is such an inspiration and has remained the strongest female character i grew up admiring and looking up to. gray conveyed her voice and her personality flawlessly. frankly, i’m not sure how i’m supposed to read another book after this.

a beautifully written story about ahsoka and how she pieces herself back together a year after order 66. growing up, ahsoka was like the older sister i never had, so reading her story post-order 66, seeing and feeling her grief and trauma and finally watching her come back to herself in a new way made me very emotional. i loved the simultaneous simplicity and complexity of the writing for this book because it turned the smallest details into something that made my emotions swell enough to need to pause my reading for a moment. ahsoka is such a dear character to me and she was captured perfectly in this book. such an incredible first read!
