Weird decisions made by the characters, didn’t feel believable or realistic - didn’t love the slave/master non con vibes

Just super misogynistic setting for the book made it quite hard to read and the religious overtones were really not my style. Very themed around old world religious fanatics burning witches and hating women, but the witches were actually bad in this as well, so it made it hard to empathise with anyone, and hard to enjoy

The writing felt very stilted - very reminiscent of an old English formal speech - made it hard for me to get into descriptions were all written so formally as well. Story wasn’t technically bad in concept or execution, it’s just not my writing style preference

Love love!
It’s a wild world out there, and nothing in this really happened the way I thought it would.

Super interesting magic system, with an interesting premise.
Very keen to read the rest of the books in the trilogy

Honestly, just hated the writing style, the footnotes were hard to follow and interrupted the flow of reading, and it was just not easy to read in general… I dreaded picking it back up and ended up deciding it wasn’t worth it.
Story line seems like it would be worth it if you can get past the writing style

Outstanding book, absolutely loved it
Magical and interesting world building, solid story line, and a great finish which wrapped up this book but left a great base for the next one.
Some pretty intense themes going on, but it felt like they were handled with care and respect

It’s the 5th book in the series, and is focused on exploring some relationships we haven’t previously seen.
