Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay

Quick, fun read. The voice is wonderfully sardonic and the character, despite being a sociopath, is very likable. I felt a sympathy for Dexter and his inhuman humanity.

Takes a few too many liberties, but over all well executed (no pun intended). Could have pulled off on the martial arts asspect and left out the zombies and it might have worked a bit better. "Pride and Prejudice and Honour" would have made a good title.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Gaiman is the inheritor of Poe's tradition. This is stark, macabre, and beautiful. This British outsider has a keen insight into the American psyche and the heart of the Midwest.
