Loving the Liar

Lola King

DID NOT FINISH: 27%

I love Lola’s writing normally. But this one was not for me.

The FMC is so disgustingly self absorbed and annoying asf. I couldn’t stand her.

The MMC is also annoying and if I read “sweets” one more time from his mouth, I was gonna lose it.

I am quickly learning that LJ Andrew’s will never miss with me. This book hit, just like the first 3. And I will admit I was nervous at first because I normally get attached to characters and then don’t want to switch to new characters mid series. But I actually love Malin and Kase so much.

Now this is marketed as a Cinderella retelling, and I don’t see that though. But it did not take away from the story for me at all, I loved learning more about the Nightrender as he intrigued me in book 3. Now I get it, the darkness, so much makes sense now. Getting to learn more about Gunnar’s dad too? Ugh I love Gunnar and how he would do anything for his family. Malin is a strong, “I got this” female, and I love that for her. The lengths she went to in order to find the boy she lost and her brother was inspiring. I love her so much.

Those last few chapters too? My heart can’t take this. 😭

What in the early 2000s monster smut fan fic did I just read? And somehow was thoroughly entertained by? 😂

Idk what the books I like say about me anymore at this point.

Omg, infinity stars. This story was immaculate. And it’s a standalone? Stfu

I was prepared to like this book, I was not prepared to fall madly in love with it. It was a mind bending adventure that I will be rereading every single year. There’s a family “curse” with time jumping, a mystery to solve, a legacy to save, and a dash of swoon worthy romance where he will do ANYTHING to keep his family safe.

The way I hung on to every single word while listening to this book and could not stop. This is the first book in a while that I finished in a day. It was that good and I am just sad it’s over.

If you’re looking for a standalone book with a mystery to solve and a romance subplot, this one is it babes.

DID NOT FINISH: 63%

DNF at 63%. I wanted to love this book because a few book besties loved it and hyped it up so much. But it just was not for me.

The FMC talked about being unhinged and not falling for men’s bs but then does exactly that. She goes from being strong and stubborn to compliant and soft. And for no reason other than they screwed her.

No rating though because I DNFed and I just may not be in a why choose mood at this moment.

4.25⭐️/5

Did this live up to the hype? Yes! I personally loved it. It was dark, gothic, with the cutest little romance. And spice. 🥵

This story is about Ophelia, mainly, as she gets thrust in to the legendary Phantasma competition to search for her sister after they had just lost their mother and Ophelia just came in to her Necromancer powers. She comes across a Phantom, Blackwell, and against her better judgment makes a deal with him in order to have his assistance to get to her sister. She’s searching for her sister, her sister is searching for answers, and Blackwell is searching for his freedom. And one of the main rules? Do not fall in love.

This book gave me Caraval and One Dark Window vibes. It had mystery, romance, spice, so many plot twists. I loved it. And it is a perfect read for spooky season. It is a Dark Romantasy, but the romance itself is so cute and there is nothing dark about them. The book just has some dark themes.

So if you are looking for a dark gothic fantasy with a steamy romance with a ghost, look no further bestie, this one’s for you. 👻

The only reason it was not a full 5 stars for me, is because some things that happened would occur with little to no context. Like we would go from a calm scene to turmoil so quickly. And the ending was kind of abrupt. There were a lot of revelations and deals and somehow everything got solved in 4 pages and then oh here’s the epilogue. Girl what? 😅 I actually have more questions than answers now, but this was only book 1 and I cannot wait for book 2.

Happy reading babes ❤️

These books are purely vibe reads.

Daniel irritated me so badly in this one. Like yes, let’s keep not giving the girl who has no memories no answers what so ever and expect her to just “behave” like your good little girl. Boy no.

I feel Luce, because I think about what if that happened to me, I am told I am somebody’s great love and I die in every lifetime when I kiss him, except for this one. But I can’t remember any of those lifetimes or what started this “curse” to begin with. Luce is going through it and needs answers and I hope she finds them herself.

Finally! Finally Rose and Lissa both stop being whiny pick mes 😅

This one is iconic, because everybody is finally showing growth and depth. And that battle? The ending? Ugh, on to the next.

Do you love books with a steampunk atmosphere?
Unique magic system?
Vampires?
Shadow daddies?
A slow burn romance that is still slow burning?

Then read this book. This was such a fun read. The world was intriguing. The magic system was super unique, it is based on mirrors and I am obsessed. The main characters were well developed. My favorite character actually ended up being the side character Giselle, I love her so much. And the villain gave major Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde vibes which hooked me even more while also making me want to throw my kindle through a wall. 😅

The only reason this book is not 5 stars for me is because some of the writing came off as juvenile, and the spice scenes were extremely cringe. But this is only book 1 so I have hopes that the next book will be even better.

So yeah, if this all sounds interesting to you, make sure to pick up this book and get ready for book 2 coming in 2025.

Thank you so much to the NerdFam for the e-arc of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What is this? My newest obsession, that’s what.

This book was amazing in so many ways. People compared this to The Cruel Prince and yes, the enemies to lovers vibes were 100% there. They quite literally hate each other for most of the book and for good reasons.

The FMC was such a complex character with so much depth, I loved her and I loved her story, every single part. Her internal struggles felt so real and made sense to each part of the story.

The MMC is filled with so many secrets, it was insane. The plot twists had me gasping and having to put down the book multiple times.

The world building is a bit slow at first, but understandable as this is book 1 and there is A LOT to this world the author has created. It took all the time it needed to and deserved to.

One of my fave characters was actually a side character. Taj, one of Susenyos’s companions. I am obsessed with him and his good hearted, yet protective nature and I hope we get more of his story too in the future. I have a feeling we will get many new stories in the future because there is so much yet to unravel just from this book.

And that last chapter? And now I have to wait for book 2? 😭

So yeah, expect to hear me talking about this book a lot for the foreseeable future! ❤️
