📌“You’re too good for me. I mean, I want you to know that I know that. But I also have no intention of letting you wander off to find someone more deserving.”

📌“This is us. Messy. Complicated. Slightly injured. Standing in the middle of yet another crime scene together after saving the day.

Dear Lucy Score,

Please never stop writing Riley Thorn books. Honestly, I never understood series with 20 books and the same characters. But I was young and naive. What did I really know about anything? Because I do now. I understand and I need more. And more. And maybe to see what the two best friends will end up doing 👀

Riley and Nick have become such a comfort. They make me laugh and swoon in the same sentence, and all I’m left with is this feeling of righteousness. They’re a home away from home. And I can’t even begin to explain the anxiety that takes over me when I think this might be the last one in the series. It can’t. It won’t. I refuse.

This case was also one of the best. I loved how we went full circle in a way, and hopefully we can put the past to rest because oof Riley, what were you thinking?! 😱

Lastly, chickens 🐓

With love,
Jess.

💜 second chance at love
🐉 older MCs (50s)
💜 love triangle
🐉 workplace romance
💜 dragons!!!

📌“I’ve spent most of my life being useful, and when a person has been useful for as long as I have, they come to believe that useful is all they are.”

It’s the cameos for me 😜

Joking aside, this was just a heartfelt story. Twyla and Frank were so perfect together, both as friends and more. And I loved how they leaned into each other when life got absolutely devastating.

And this world?! Oof. It just keeps getting more and more fun 🤩 the background story was so good and who doesn’t like a good dragon? 😜

Like with Mercy and Hart (love them to pieces!), all the supporting characters made this book that extra special, that extra fun, that extra exciting.

📌“You’re it for me.”

📌“There was always something that ached at the back of my mind every time I thought of you”“You thought of me?”
“How could I not think of you?”

📌“You really are my match. Signed and sealed.”

📌“There was a part of me that always knew it. I felt you like a piece that had gone missing.”

Hold me not only until morning. Hold me forever. That’s what this book sang to me since page 1 and that’s what I promise to do. Because it has a part of me that I didn’t know existed. Because Cody and Hailey and Maddie wrecked my heart in all the good ways that matter. They know all the important things about me. And I will know them long before I reached the end.

I love every single one of this band of brothers. But I honestly thought Ryder was it for me. Nobody could possibly touch him way up there. Ah! Sweet summer child, I knew nothing. Cody. Cody is it. Cody who made so many mistakes when he was young. Cody who should have known better. But also Cody who did do better. Cody who gave everything to those he loved. Cody who knew… some things are worth it.

Hails bells, you’re a Goddess among women.

Thank you so much @aljacksonauthor and @valentine_pr_ for this ARC and for such a perfect book that consumed all my minutes.

📌 “She laughs, and the sound of it hits me hard.”

📌 “I can’t imagine anyone else but her.”

And I couldn’t honestly imagine anything beating Rival Hearts (book 1 in this series) but here we are. Here we are with the most perfect sports romance meets romantic suspense. Here we are with a single dad falling first for his brother’s (ex) girlfriend. Here we are with my heart packing its bags to go live with Trixie and Cooper.

Maggie Rawdon had me from chapter 1 and has yet to release me from this spell. I’m still obsessing over this story, these characters and Ramsey. 👀 I mean when he just *you know* I should have cringed, maybe gasped, definitely screamed. But the dark girlie in me just smirked and thought… “interesting.” ➡️👀 I’m not even going to pretend this was an even remotely acceptable reaction but alas… It was mine 🫣

I’m also a goner for a good girl friendship and Maddie and Bea are the very best. Powerhouse ladies who would do anything for each other 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

And just one more thing… the 🌶️ in this?! My goodness, absolutely delicious. 🤌🏼

📌“We all have a past. It doesn’t make any of us any less worthy.”

Is it hot in here? 🥵 Anyone else in need of a good fanning? Just me? Oof. It’s 🔥

Nero came in like a feline, hunting within the shadows. But Cinder was no prey. Not really. There was always choice in her acceptance, always understanding in her love. And Nero and Cinder’s chemistry was just undeniable and unmatched in this gorgeous Cinderella retelling.

I still feel like the Midnight Manor has a life of its own, making it one of my favorite characters in this series. Ever imposing, always knowing. The manor seems to guide to ones who wander and those who got lost along the way.

Sid, I’m impatiently waiting on you. 🖤

Thank you Piper & Rayne and @valentine_pr_ for this ARC.

🎼 top book boyfriend

Welcome to this session of literary court of books. We gather here today, as you soon will see, to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Rafael Lopez is the top book boyfriend among all other book boyfriends. Team Prom King would like to present exhibit 1 to the booksta jury:

📌”I’m going to figure out who I am and what I want in life, so the next time Ellie gives me a chance—and she will—I won’t throw it away. I’ll make sure of it.”

And also the following evidence… exhibit 2:

📌”You may see a broken masterpiece, but I only see you.”

Exhibit 3:

📌”I need to be better for her, or else I’m going to lose her before I ever truly had her.”

Exhibit 4:

📌 “You may not be able to come home yet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t bring home to you.”

Exhibit 5:

📌 “I may not be the one you envisioned for yourself, but I won’t stop until I feel like I’m worthy of you.”

Lastly, let me just say this for the record. I never felt so emotional over a person’s haircut before but here we are crying over a shaved beard and shorter hair. 😭

Team Prom King rests its case and thanks the court.

And as reviews go… Let me tell you some irrefutable truths: this is a masterpiece, you need to read, absolutely unputdownable, and there are cameos that will make you completely lose it. And I mean it. Scream out loud, hug the book, shed a tear lose it. You don’t understand… yet but you will. 😜

Lastly, Ellie is my soul sister. She likes to dress in black, is not good at sports, finds escapism in music and words, loves animals. We’re pretty much the same person, thank you very much. 😌

Nick and Alyssa, what am I going to do with you guys?! *sigh* I loved you both individually but maybe not yet together 🫣 Yet, being the key word here because the road just needed to be a little longer, a little wider, and a lot more angsty.

And how can you guys not love Kandinsky?! I should’ve ended this whole thing right there and then. I wanted to. Because, how dare you? 😜

Joking aside, their museum visit was one of my favorite things about this book and where I felt a vivid connection between our lovely MCs.

Devin, we adore you.

📌“You answered.”
“You called.”

📌“I want you, Elodie Lily Clarke. I’ve wanted you since the first time I saw you. If you think that’s changed … it hasn’t. It won’t. I know I’ve hurt you, and I swear I never meant to.”

The angst kept me up way past midnight. The angst kept my hands glued to this book. The angst made me *there* even while lying on my bed.

Ryder and Elle’s story was heartbreakingly perfect. The tragic start(s) just made everything bigger, better, more intense. And while maybe not all wounds have been healed - and I’m talking about mine, okay?! -, their happiness made up for everything… it made me not want to change a single thing in this patchwork of scars that is now my heart.

The dual timeline was both tragic (for my heart) and absolutely brilliant (for the rest of me). I fell for Ryder every time Elle did. I dreamed with Ryder every time he thought of a future with Lo.

Life is a pain, isn’t it? But it’s also amazing.
This was a love story. But it was also a story of forgiveness and choices.

📌“I’m not going to ask for you to forgive me because I want to earn it.”

📌“I want to make this marriage into one you can be proud of no matter what it looks like or how long it’s meant to last. I don’t want it to be something you regret.”

📌“This was never meant to be permanent, but suddenly when I picture my future, I can’t see it without the presence of her notes in the dark.”

Oof. Lachlan Kane. Immediately book boyfriend. This budget Batman walked in and left a mess all over. Why? Because he touched every little nook and cranny of both Lark and myself, and I just stood there thinking, “please and thank you.”

Ah my beautiful, dark Lark… she’s the real superStar here. Her darkness shined as bright as her light did and it took no effort at all to love her. These two were so well matched — I think Queen Muffin Ethel would agree with me.

I love me some marriage of convenience. It’s probably one of my top tropes. That first time he tells someone not to mess with his *wife* does things to me and my poor heart. And the way Brynne Weaver delivered on the rest of the plot as masterfully as in Butcher & Blackbird just shows how brilliant she is. The bar was set in the stratosphere with B&B and she just kept it there with L&L like it was easy 😱. Maybe it is for her. And maybe I’ll be forever grateful for that 😜

If you haven’t picked up this series, this is your sign 🪧 to do so!

📌And maybe, in a way, I started wanting my fantasies about the future to stay fantasies. Right? Because if fantasies come true, they can’t be fantasies anymore.”

📌“I don’t have anxiety. I just worry all the time.” “I’m just gonna let those words echo around the room.”

📌“Don’t break his heart, okay? He’s much sweeter than he seems.”

📌“Here’s another thing I accidentally figured out: happiness is always better with a little bit of sadness.”

I could keep going. I highlighted so many quotes and scenes from this book that it’s easier to find the ones I didn’t. And you want to know why? Because this was the most perfect romcom you’ll read all year.

I laughed so much. I smiled even more. And I cried both from the laughter and from the inevitable pre-HEA heartbreak… this is a romcom after all. But most important than all of that, I think, is that I felt. I felt freely and constantly. I felt so hard and yet remained so light. The romcom effect as I like to call it.

I now NEED to go line dancing. I MUST. I WANT it so bad 😭

Thanks to this book I also realize that I LOVE LOVE LOVE that scene where someone close to the MMC tells the FMC “I’ve never seen him like this or look at someone like that.” My heart thanks you. Deeply😌

{Love is in the details. And I so noticed when he stopped messing up the mean lady’s title 🥹}
