Beautiful, emotional, astonishingly well-written. Make sure you are in a happy place mentally and stable enough to read this before starting, A Little Life is the most challenging and devastating book I’ve ever encountered so far. Please check trigger warnings online as well before reading.

I don’t have much to say. I just think Murakami isn’t really for me, I found this book boring and didn’t feel anything while reading it. I don’t have much interest in any of the characters except Midori, and the only parts I found interesting were the ones where she was there. This book took me so long to finish because I just didn’t want to read it.

This book is phenomenal, the writing is incredible, beautiful but efficient, and these characters just own my heart. They’re all so fleshed out and interesting and so beautifully human. This book made me feel so many different emotions, and that is what I’m looking for in fiction. I think any type of person could enjoy this, it is just purely and simply a masterpiece. I won’t try to give you a longer, more complete review because words can’t even begin to describe how much I loved this story. Completely deserves the hype.

I actually don’t have much to say about this book. I enjoyed it, and although he is quite annoying, Holden is a character that I think can be relatable to anyone for many different reasons. Some of the reflections were interesting, though it did seem a bit too whiny for me at times. And I know it was written a long time ago but still, it’s just the story of a white guy complaining. Interesting as an innovation for the time period ? Yeah. Interesting to read right now, when there’s a lot more books with those topics out there ? I’m not sure. Overall, I would still recommend it, it was enjoyable and I think I’ll actually remember reading it for a long time, which is pretty rare. It’s also sort of a « must read » if you want to study litterature. I know I make it sound like I didn’t like it, but I really do feel a lot of affection for this stupid little guy and his stupid little story.
