I won’t go in length about this book, because most people already know what to think of it. It’s just a beautiful piece of art and the writing is absolutely stunning. Although the ending is quite predictable, I think it is one of my favorite book endings of all time, it is just masterfully executed and makes the book feel « complete » and even more impressive. It is probably the reason why I rated this over 4 stars, which is something I very rarely do. Another thing I think is very important with this, is that as a non-native english speaker, this was a great book for me to start reading classic literature in english. It’s true that sometimes the descriptions are a little to confusing still for my level, but I could understand the majority of it and it was great to introduce myself to more elaborate structures and phrasing. I would definitely recommend this book, well of course to anyone, but especially to beginners in English literature.

I get the criticisms, yes there isn’t enough descriptions, yes the magic system makes no sense at times, yes it tries really hard to be intellectual to the point where it feels pretentious and I agree to all of them but I just loved this so much still. The Atlas Six was for me the kind of book you just read to have a good time, and no it’s not very deep, but it’s just thoroughly enjoyable. I think the writing style is quite interesting and though It isn’t for everyone, I personally didn’t mind it at all. The characters are in my opinion the reason why this book is worth reading, they’re all so unique and loveable in their own way (I’m saying « in their own way » because my favourite was Callum haha) and their interactions were truly my favourite part of the book. This is a book for people like me who enjoy shipping and ambiguous relationships a lot that’s for sure. I would advise not to read it simply because you enjoy fantasy, you will probably be disappointed. Another thing I must add as well, I found the ending a little underwhelming, almost disappointing and I hope the author makes up for it in second volume.

Beautiful feminist retelling, absolutely fabulous writing. A little too slow for my taste though, and if you already know the story of the Minotaur, the first part seems to drag a little. The last two parts however were very good, and the end was just so so beautiful and poetic.

Really beautiful book, poetic, gorgeous writing. The reason I didn’t rate this higher is because sometimes I found the book to be a little bit long, the writing was great and the characters too but it just seemed to drag at times. Also, I know this is a trauma response to a lot of people but the submissive aspect of Marianne’s personality made me somewhat uncomfortable. I know it’s written to be that way obviously, that Sally Rooney wanted to depict what abuse victims sometimes go through and we understand completely that it is a coping mechanism but still, it just made me sad. And normally I like sad, but I’d rather it to be heart-wrenching and to make me cry for just an hour rather than lasting throughout the whole book as a kind of melancholy. I’m also pretty young so that might explain why I felt uncomfortable at times reading those moments.
Update: The more I think about this book, the more I hate it. Forget what I weote before. What a waste of time.
