The Men From Echo Creek by N.R. Walker
4.75
This is a historical romance set in the 1880s, featuring Albie and Percy.
This book had tooth-ache levels of sweetness which was balanced with banter and a little bit of drama which is light, resolves quickly, and keeps this read firmly in the low-angst, high-swoon category.
These two had me absolutely melting, just like the butter they used as lube. And don’t even get me started on the butter-related humour - I was cackling.
I loved the brumby herding scene, and the side characters added a gorgeous found family vibe to the story.
The epilogue was the perfect HEA for The Men From Echo Creek. This book left me with full-on giggling and kicking my feet levels of joy.
File this one under:
1. Butter as lube!!
2. I cried in the epilogue (of course I did).
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I suddenly have a craving for damper!

Aaron and Dean are brothers and roommates, and when Aaron unknowingly eats Dean's space cakes, their relationship takes a turn.
Between the cute pet names, the spicy chemistry, and Aaron and Dean's love for each other, this was such a fun read. I couldn't stop smiling! And it was plenty dirty too! These two are both adorable and so hot together. I'd say this is medium to high spice, and it's also really sweet.
I loved Avery, the non-binary side character!
I can't wait for Be Mine, the next book in the Brother Lovers series. And do we get Avery's story at some point?? Because I'd be all over that!

Shaw and Burkie have stolen my heart! This book gave me all the feels - teary eyes and goofy grins from all of those sweet moments that make you melt. Shaw is the ultimate golden retriever, all charm and sunshine, while Burkie is a gorgeous cinnamon roll who deserves the world. Together, they’re pure magic.
Their text flirting was adorable and Burkie getting all flustered over it had me feeling all the warm fuzzies. And Burkie perving on Shaw stretching? Honestly, same, mate - isn’t that all of us watching hockey?
I’m such a sucker for a bi awakening, especially when the MC is just all in. And Shaw was definitely that.
Burkie standing up to his horrible father was a moment of triumph.
There’s a brilliant balance of sweet and spicy moments. From meeting at the airport to the cutest gift-giving (with an added spicy gift too), it’s a perfect mix.
The locker room scene, the toys, the bed-breaking - the spice is spicing! But underneath the steam, there’s such a strong emotional connection and that's what made me fall in love with this book.
Honestly, I couldn't love Shaw and Burk more.
The epilogues left me teary in the best way, and I couldn’t stop smiling by the end. If you’re after a heart-warming story with great spice and a couple you’ll adore, this is the one for you.

Book Review: The Fall by May Archer
This is the story of Everett and Silas, two men grappling with loss and grief, finding love, and healing in the small, charming town of O’Leary.
Everett is grieving the loss of his husband and relocates to O’Leary to live with his grandpa, Hen. Let’s just say his arrival is less “fresh start” and more “literal stumble through the woods.” Case in point:
“I limped over to collect my cat and started walking toward O’Leary because there was really nothing else to do. The only way out of the woods, literally and metaphorically, was through them.”
Hen, the grumpy grandpa, is a standout character. That heartwarming conversation they had left a mark on me.
Then there’s the quintessential small-town charm of O’Leary:
“O’Leary was a permanent sort of place. A Pumpkin-Festival and Christmas carols sort of place.”
May Archer’s writing is sharp and heartfelt. One of my favourite lines:
“My stomach was full of pancakes, my head was full of doubt, and my heart was thrumming like a hummingbird’s wings even though I wasn’t capable of fighting or fleeing at the moment if my life depended on it.”
There are so many gorgeous moments, but this one, when Silas talks about Matty’s artistry, just broke me:
“I’ve never been as good at anything as he was at drawing. Everyone said he had a gift, but I thought… I thought he was a gift.”
It’s not all tears, though - there’s humour, clever banter, and a wonderfully crafted mystery subplot.
Clever, funny, sweet, emotional, and well-written - this has earned a spot as one of my new favourites. I’m so glad I savoured this buddy read with @boysfromthebookshelf. Having time to let it all sink in made the experience even better.
If you’re after a book that will make you laugh, cry, and swoon in equal measure, The Fall is a must-read.
