If I could upload a gif of Mr. Burns kicked back on the phone with his feet up, I would—because that’s exactly the vibe this book gave me.

Lauren is the literary queen we do not deserve. A reverse white knight?? Iconic. And the way the pets were fell over Nico? Purfection. 🐾

The plot didn’t grip me quite as tightly as Lights Out, but it’s still a strong and very welcome addition to the series. I especially appreciated how the book touched on sex workers’ rights—it’s becoming more important than ever, and I love that Navessa took the time to acknowledge that in a thoughtful way. I also loved the inclusivity. This is a safe place!!!

I did mark it down slightly more because Moira’s character felt deeply out of touch and honestly got me raging again and again.

Diabolical.

We all needed more Haymitch and Suzanne delivered a 381 page masterpiece. I devoured it in hours.

I was so captivated by the parallels between Snow and Abernathy—two sides of the same coin. Only Haymitch is a far better man, and Snow knows it.

Quoting “there’s nothing you could take from me” and then Haymitch quietly thinking there are three things you can—and watching them all be destroyed: the house fire… the gumballs by Lenore’s geece?!

Now he gets the pleasure of a reeping every single birthday?! Oaf.

Lenore is actually my new favourite Covey member and Hunger Games character, what an icon. What a baddie to have as your only love.

District 12 was full of beautiful additions to the story. Wyatt with the stats, Maysilee our sweetheart, and Lourella—each of them helped drive the daggers deeper, and explaining why Haymitch is.

Previously established characters were trotted out, much to my delight (and pain), but only to enrich what we already knew about them and/or the storyline.

It was also near-impossible to tell what came first—the chicken or the egg. Suzanne did an exceptional job accounting for already-established lore while gently reminding us of what’s still to come in the original series.

His Eliza epilogue was perfect. If anything, I’d have loved a longer one, but the resolution we got was enough, especially in the context of the wider series.

Honestly one of the best prequels I’ve ever read. Give Suzanne her roses 🥀

Lucy Gray Baird—the woman that you are.

I absolutely adored her character. The songs, the lore, the stories she wove—everything about her added such richness to the world, and to Snow. The world-building in this book? Perfect.
I just wish her cards were dealt better, she deserves more than Snow.

Getting to know Snow more intimately was just the tonic. While it wasn’t quite enough to make me like him, it gave me a much deeper understanding of who he becomes—and why he harbours such deep hatred for District 12 and the mockingjays.

Run Lil run!
Ma! Ma! Ma!
No stranger would it be, if we met up at midnight in the hanging tree—ouch!!!
I’m quite glad it haunts him until queen Katniss.

This was a far richer experience than the film, hands down. I much preferred getting to know the Covey too. Though it's even more upsetting to realise Snow has a conscience and could have had a life worth living - he just chooses to smother it, in favour of the Capitol and his own gain.

In my mind, the book ends at Chapter 24. They all lived happily ever after. Snow did not carry on his father’s legacy. *I scream as they lock me away*.

Obsessed with the Pride and Prejudice nods 🖐️🖐️🖐️

Kai and Isa might just be my new favourite Huang couple (though Christian is seriously close competition).

This would have been a five read for me because I truly adored the characters BUT… the plot felt like a bit of a slog. Not much really happens, and I’m not sure it was quite enough to carry the whole story.

Mark could be my new favourite Bennet brother.

Honestly this was a really fun read and I loved how the characters developed by accepting themselves - no matter how tough it was - and will continue after the story.

Saeris and Kingfisher have officially ruined me for all other ships – beautifully doomed, bittersweet, slow-burn tragedy – and I loved every second of it. 🦋

You can feel the adoration between them so clearly, even in the pits of hate; so many soft, sappy, or kind moments from both characters that I absolutely adored. I’ve never rooted for a couple to beat the odds quite this hard. Both of them individually deserve the world, but even more so, they deserve it together.

The plot is so tightly woven that everything clicks into place exactly when it should, with a kind of elegant inevitability – even when things get twisty.

Choosing a favourite from the cadre was nearly impossible – Ren and Lorreth both brought strong contender energy – but Carrion Swift stole my heart.

Im so happy this series lives!!!

I couldn’t help but root for Phi and Jude from the water tower onwards—they had me in a chokehold. Their individual arcs were so strong and damn it does Loner deserve the world.
