My 8 year old read this one to me. She is working through the set. Great for early readers and it also gave us opportunity to talk about the Bible. 
The Witches: Salem, 1692 by Stacy Schiff

A good narrative history of events. Schiff presupposes that supernatural things do not exist, and this colors her interpretation of history. But I ask, what if some were indeed witches?

Greek philosophy is wearisome, but it is very clear that apart from God and His revelation, everyone is blind and leading the blind. 
Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier

Good deal of fun, very clever. It has dark moments, but it is also playful and joyful. I like Auxier's books.
