I love John Scalzi's writing, but the style of this book didn't work for me. The premise was clever but the story and an audiobook didn't work.
There's a lot of dialog and every starmentb ends with ____ said.

In the written form you can probably gloss over it? But in audio form it gets distractingly annoying.

I think it's amusing that this book was inspired by the author joking with her husband "what if I left you for a musician" and he encouraged her to write it as a book.

I love this format of historical fiction books that a ounce between two story lines - past and present that are seemingly unconnected and then connect. I became invested in both story lines and wanted them to keep going. Just wish the authors had included a author's note to talk about what was based on real historical events and what was made up.
