Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I don't think there's anything I could say about this book that hasn't already been said because I'm the last person on earth to read it! But it was all the things people say it is, and more. So beautifully written, so emotionally charged. I loved everything about this book- there's not a single thing I'd change. Can't wait to see the movie, I hope it does it justice.
Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier

Jennifer Hillier can do no wrong! She is an auto-buy author for me so I think I actually screamed when I got approved for this ARC.

Paris' Peralta has a lot of secrets, and being charged with the murder of her famous husband and thrust into the spotlight is not ideal. Her past starts catching up with her, both the good and bad parts. As the saying goes, whats done in the dark, will always come to the light.

I was not sucked into this book like I thought I would be, but I think it had more to do with me than it did the book. I did figure out the twist pretty early on so there was no surprises for me but it was still very well written and interesting. I loved all the backstory we got on Paris.. even though it wasn't a happy one. I really liked all the different perspectives as well.

This isn't my favourite JH book by any means, but it was good!

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press/Minotaur books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I'm not going to go into the synopsis, I really can't word it any better than it's been laid out and I went into it totally blind and enjoyed not knowing where it was heading!

The writing of this book is really what got me hooked. It's so beautifully written and the descriptions of things are so creative. Yes, at times it seemed like it was maybe trying to hard, which is why it wasn't a 5 star for me. It almost made the main character feel less authentic- we're supposed to be in her head but her thoughts vs her speech just didn't line up for me.

The constant turmoil, the injustice, the heartbreak- it's all heavy. This isn't a usual genre for me, but I think the story is important.. especially as the main storyline of this book was based on real events. Also worth noting this author was 17 when she began writing and 19 when it was published. An amazing accomplishment and she has so much talent. Looking forward to what she has coming next.

Creepy read! It got a little repetitive in the middle, but other than that, I liked it. Really scary imagery and a unique storyline.

I'm going between a 3 and a 3.5- I wanted to love this book. It had all the right components but I just didn't feel super pulled in. I think there was a lot of potential to make this creepier than it was. The characters were likeable enough but there was just something lacking for me. The beginning was slow and a little boring and the ending was rushed. I've seen some members of the KTC say they would like to see more about the other mothers stories and I totally agree.

4.5 stars- rounded up.

This was my first C.J Tudor and it won't be my last. It had a creepy, dark feeling throughout the whole book. We follow a Vicar and her daughter as they are placed in a new town and church. This was my first read that had a dark religious tone to it and I really enjoyed it. The only thing stopping it from being a 5 star review is that I figured out most of the twists relatively quickly- minus 1 big one. That said, the fact that there were so many twists and the overall sense of unease made this one of my favourite reads in recent memory.

Can't wait to check out more by this author!!
