When I Come Back by Alise Monroe
4.5
A debut that hits all the feels, angst galore, and does not read like a debut. I was hooked on Thea and Carrington’s story, told in present and flashbacks. It hits all the things I am looking for small town and second chances. The storytelling kept me reading, afraid I was going to miss something, and ended much too quickly.
Thea and Carrington/Cary are real, you feel what they feel. Thea is stubborn and wears her heart on her sleeve. Cary is flawed, but he tries. He knows Thea is the only one for him.
There are some lingering questions that I am hoping get answered further into the series. It was a great start, leaving me wanting more; I am going to look forward to a lot more from this author.

A great start to a new series, new place, new friends, and some favorites from the past.
Ashford is a broody, set in his ways, loving father who does not like a portion of his business space being rented to the new music teacher. Emma has left California for Colorado, she needs something new for the summer, and teaching music to kids is her plan.
We get a hard to put down story of twists and turns, surprises and more. I expect nothing less from this author. Emma is a second generation, and we met a younger version of her in The West Oaks Heros series. I recommend this new series and any previous series by this author.

My heart took a beating, but so worth it! Abby and Clay take us on a journey of heartbreak, loss, and second chances.
The story is beautifully written and the words pull at your emotions. I felt their pain and cheered their happiness. Life is not always perfect, but how we live it, and make the changes necessary.
I loved this book, and will wait for the next one.

I loved this easy to read, fun, best friends to lovers story.
Ophelia and Phillip have been best friends for two years, and with graduation looming, he might be returning to South Africa. But a trip to Vegas, and a drunken evening might have just solved that issue. What else could possibly go wrong?
The journey, the laughs, the banter made for a story I could relate to and not want to put down. I am ready for the next book in the Sunshine Cellars series.

Maddox brings the romance!
Ms. Ryan’s leading men always bring the swoon, but I think Maddox might have topped all her previous ones. He is the latest of our Everlasting Ink family to find love.
Maddox is attracted to Brogan, but too shy to make his move. Brogan has a past that she is working through, but not quite there yet. Yet, it is a surprise to both as they wake up in a Vegas hotel room, married.
It is from here that I swoon, as she panics, he is the voice of reason. He is not going to hide her and communicates his plan. A beautifully written story, that will tug at your heart. The love and support by Maddux and her sister help Brogan to heal.
This reader recommends this book and the entire series.

Introducing David Black. He is the founder of Blackguard Security. This is the book I have been building this series up to and hinted at in the previous book Overlooking the Past. I was not disappointed.
I was hooked from page one, the book is short enough to be read on an afternoon, and I did. Be prepared for secrets, danger, suspense, and drama. Kassandra and David had been friends, but her husband caused a rift between them. Well, he is now gone and left her and her boys with a bunch of trouble. She calls upon her friend to help.
Can David and his team help? Will old feelings resurface?

Breathe For Me by Taylor Jade

I wanted to love this book, and I did like it. This reader feels with a little polish and added details it can get there. The story is good, has second chances, has plenty of emotion, and is a wonderful small town.
Hunter and Austen have a definite connection, and when he finds her sleeping in her car, he needs to help her. Is the pain of the past too strong, though? Together, they need to find forgiveness, face the danger of her past, and heal.

The Life We Left Behind: A Second Chance, Small Town Romance by Piper Wylde

This book caught my attention with the small town and second chances tropes. As I finished the book, I was disappointed the story was ending. I never wanted to leave Willowbrook. The writing, the characters, and the story is top notch. The balance of emotion in the backstory and humor of Cade.
Delaney is headed back to Willowbrook, a town she is not excited to return to. She needs to plan her father’s funeral. From here, I was hooked; the story just flowed, and it was hard to walk away from. Delaney, Trace, and Cade. They have captured my heart.
I am ready to go back, we have just enough information on the remaining Farrington brothers to create curiosity. Piper Wylde is now on my need to read list.

It is no secret that I love a good small town story. This one is a great afternoon escape!
Hailey is a teacher, she has dreams for more, she wants to open her own preschool. Getting the loan is last hurdle. Oliver is a lawyer married to his job, and Hailey’s brother’s best friend.
A canceled flight makes for a road trip for these two. Will a single bed, have them acting on their attraction?
I enjoyed everything about this book, the characters, the story, the humor, the secrets, and the twists. Hailey and Oliver’s adventure is a recommended read from me.

I love a good second generation book, and this story is done well. If you are interested in the backstory, read “Breathing Her Fire.” You do not need to, but it is also another good story.
We are back in Sonoma, North Carolina; it has been a few years. Lilly has returned, secrets and lies revealed, could she and Noah have a second chance? Add in a touch of suspense just to keep us guessing.
I enjoyed my return to Sonoma and look forward to the next visit.
