Unfortunately, this book was a no. I did not request this book to review, but it was kindly gifted to me. Regardless of how I received this book, my opinion is entirely my own based on what the book delivered. I’m going to be honest, it didn’t deliver anything. The characters were one dimensional, I didn’t get any tension and I never find it appropriate when a 17 year old is interested in an adult and they eventually end up dating (even if nothing inappropriate happened). Now this could be because I’m 26 and teach 17 year olds and still see them as children, idk. Now this book is listed as a YA, but the references in the books would be perfect if this book came out in the early 2010s, but children and teenagers today will not get the references put in there and there’s nothing to definitely establish what year this is…but I’m guessing it’s set in the 2010s. Also the FMC, Daphne, lacked maturity and she’s meant to have freshly graduated high school, she was acting how my 13 year old students would act…if you know, they were wealthy. It was weird to see Milosh and Daphne being super flirty with each other, because it was always disconnected when a childhood movie/tv show was referenced (like Tangled and Aladdin).

The only thing that’s making me say go by the book is that the author is a booktoker (which I only found out after reading this book) and it would be nice to support other book obsessed people in the social media space.

I could get behind this one 🔥

Second chance romance isn’t really my thing, but Lyla Sage definitely redeemed this trope. I adored the relationship between Cam and Dusty, however, there were some short falls to it that kinda irked me. This was a quick and very easy read that allowed me to take a breather from some more intense books I’ve read lately.

I liked it, but there were some sections that just weren’t for me.

This book was okay.

This book was good.

Welp, my heart is broken.

I enjoyed this one.

When I first saw this cover, it did give me new adult sports romance vibes and so I thought that this would be a spicy read. Then I found out upon reading that this is set in high school and was hesitant that this book would not be appropriate. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case. This book would be perfect for teens who want to get into the hype that new adult sports romance brings, but at a more age appropriate level. Do not expect spice because this book is clearly YA. As an adult, I will say this was probably written too young for me to fully enjoy, but I still appreciated this nonetheless.
So, going back to the cover…it does give new adult sports romance vibes and definitely gives off the wrong impression. So commentary for that is: do NA books need to stop being illustrated, or should YA take a different approach?

This was really insightful and interesting.
