For those who don’t know, I’m a history teacher and teach Cities of Vesuvius as a mandatory ancient history topic to my Year 12s. So when I saw that this book was available to review, I had to request it! I’ll be honest when I say that this book wasn’t 100% perfect, but I was definitely there for the vibes and loved the premise every step of the way. While there are modern elements to this book, I also loved the historically accurate aspects to it too.
There are magical elements to this book that definitely make it interesting as well.
All in all, a read that had me turning the pages with intrigue.

I enjoyed this one.

I was hooked from the get go and couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved the tension in this book; Aspen and Grey had the best relationship. There is age-gap and opposites attract, but it was written so well and was woven in seamlessly. I am also a big fan of fake dating and this was done so well.

This book is the second in an interconnected standalone and is such an amazing series, definitely one I recommend.

This book has an interesting premise and I was definitely intrigued by the blurb rather than my usually cover buy. But I just didn’t click with it the way I wanted to. It was definitely well written, but didn’t hold my interests.

This book hit me right in the feels. This book was comedic, but also dealt with serious life situations that really made me think what I would do if I was put in the same position. I genuinely couldn’t put this book down. The only thing that irked me was the insta-loved which just wasn’t really for me.

I found this really insightful.

I wanted to give Alex Aster another chance as I wasn’t a fan of Lightlark, however, I shouldn’t be surprised that this was a let down for me. This book could’ve been so good and had a good premise. But having the FMC act like “she’s not like other girls” and constantly complaining about her love interest’s wealth even though she constantly goes back to him is just gross. This book is a quick read but it was so highly disappointing.

*minor spoilers ahead*

I had high hopes for this one, but it unfortunately fell a little flat for me. While I easily breezed through this one, I also felt as if it was pretty forgettable and I wouldn’t be rushing to read this again any time soon. This is promoted as an enemies-to-lovers book, but I didn’t get much of that and all I really wanted was the tension. Something that really got to me is that I am surprised at Andie’s willingness to forgive Jack. I wouldn’t get back with someone who did something as bad as what Jack did, regardless of if he was coerced or not. This book is about grief and it really should’ve been labelled as such. I’m sure there are people out there who’ll love this book, it just personally wasn’t for me.

So tbh, Hazelwood is a hit or miss author however, I’m always willing to give her new books a go. Something I really loved about this book straight off the bat was that it’s not similar to the rest of her books. It’s still uniquely Hazelwood, but the focus isn’t STEM but actually…swimming! This book does also centre around BDSM and maybe there could’ve been more of that? But it’s honestly not something I desperately needed from this book. I am all for Hazelwood’s new spicy era.
This book is perfect for Hazelwood and sports romance fans.
