Now I don't normally like Why choose as its usually smut over substance but I really enjoyed this. We got to know Ruger, Ellery, Gannon and Perth individually and it feels like they have different personalities. Noah is our main female and she is struggling to come to terms with her new future after getting lost in the woods and coming to a small town only to be thrust into a Hunt wearing only a red robe. This had all the small town vibes, the witty banter, the pining. Some mystery elements and my god as is said in the authors note the cliffhanger is a doozy and I agree. Need to continue.

Solid start to the series. The colour magic is unique and interesting. Creon and Emelins banter and training was fun to read and the stakes are high. Emelin has magic she shouldn't have. One day the Silent Death catches her using her magic and snatches her away to the crimson court where she has to play political games and she tries to learn what her place is in the world. Lots of backstories that sound interesting to learn about. Looking forward to book 2

This is probably one of my favourite YA books I've read in years. The concept was so unique. The magic systems. The characters. This one did shift focus a bit to Elm and Ione and the aftermath of the last book. They weren't my fave and I wanted more from Raven and Elspeth. I loved the nightmare he was a fantastic and memorable character. Click click click. All in all this is a series I want to reread one day and the audiobook was fantastic.

I wanted more. I know its a novella but ahhhhh. Lilith has been dying since she was born. A curse from a God is ravaging her town and she will try to find answers until she can't anymore to save all she loves. Her inquiries bring her to Vale a vampire holed up away from town. It was good getting more lore and more gods drama in this. I really enjoyed the world building here within a small book. I'm glad I read before book 2 in crowns of nyaxia series.

If you were looking for a book like the others in the STEM novels this isn't really that. It's more character studies on 2 broken people in a strange relationship while both having to fight their pasts to move forward. Rue is an interesting character who is on one side driven to succeed in her field and make a great invention because of past experiences and on the other is a person who doesn't want to love or make connection. Eli is a driven man who is trying to buy the company Rue works for but who has his own issues and pasts but can't help his feelings. The background story could have been resolved in like 1 conversation but that's not the point here and that wouldn't be as interesting. Not the best but was interesting enough and I liked the side characters so hope some of them get a book to themselves

Very strangely written book. Not a lot really happens and the prose is very purple. Similar to stange the dreamer where again there is poetic world building but not alot of plot. The plot of this book could have been 200 pages. But it was beautiful and savage and raw and intriguing once you got about 250 pages in and the world starts making some sense. If you are going in thinking this is a fast paced action packed story you'll be disappointed. If you take the time to savor it you may enjoy it.

This is such a strange series. In one part it's so creepy and mysterious that you can't stop reading and on the other side this book was pretty boring and non eventful. There were glimmers of interest with
the biologist Ghost Bird and the work place dramas and not knowing why he was sent there
but alot felt very unresolved which I understand is the point but after the last book doing  that I wanted more. Now even though I didn't really like this book I want to read the next one. It feels like 2 books of pure set up.

Any book that makes me feel for the main characters in this way deserves a 5 star. Tisaana is a slave who is trying to buy her freedom. She is told if she can buy her freedom and get to another kingdom they can help her with her magic. She is a very determined person who wants to save all slaves who have had her fate. Then she gets stuck with a mysterious and grumpy teacher who doesn't want to help her. Max has secrets of his own. This story is dark and twisted and political and just very interesting. I want to know more about the magic. All the side characters have their own secrets and desires and goals that help and hinder our main character.
