I could get on board with and be sympathetic to the protagonists after the accident, but as events unfolded and it turns out he was still alive and they could have gotten him help , I really struggled to enjoy the story. I get that the guy wasn't a great person and Meddy did initially act in self defense, but it's more difficult for me to imagine that the "good" characters are really that good when none of them seem to feel guilt or remorse. I tried to get into the story, but sometimes it felt like a weird lighthearted romp with a bunch of sociopaths, because I just couldn't forget that plot point where it was less an accident and more intentional negligence .

More of an essay than a book. I heard the author speak about the story and that's why I read it. The author talking about it was a lot more insightful and interesting that what is written. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much without having the context of hearing the author speak about the events.
