A queer college lacrosse sports romance? Yeah, sign me up! I had this on my mental tbr for years and finally randomly decided to read it. I ate it up! There were a few scenes that were a little cheesy, but that was expected. Overall, both women felt real and like separate people. I also loved seeing the friendships between all the team members.
I don't give star ratings to memoirs. This is a poignant and insightful look into the harm that can come from growing up in a strict religious household while on camera. What Shari is doing to protect children in Utah is commendable. I will say from the outside looking in, it was clear to me that the LDS church played a large role in the suffering Shari and her siblings faced, yet Shari has not made that connection, or at least does not discuss it much in this book. I do not want to be insensitive to her beliefs, but I hope she can continue her healing journey and deconstruct from the harmful teachings of the LDS church.
There is something about a man who has been obsessed and secretly pining for her for years that will do it for me EVERY SINGLE TIME. I loved the writing style, descriptions, and insights on life. I will definitely be reading more from Cara.
