The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond

FRIENDS! The Marriage Pact was a wild one! It reminded me of a Black Mirror episode mixed with elements of Survivor… and if that’s any indication of what the marriage between Alice and Jake will be like, get ready to brace yourself!

The storyline of The Pact, whose goal is the keep marriages happy and intact, was very creative and tempts the reader to contemplate the pros of this unconventional and cult like organization and even question your perspective of what it takes to have a successful marriage.

I was surprised that I found myself siding with the Pact on some parts of the story; a great book will make you think and push past your comfort zone. The pacing was well timed and the story ended in a thought provoking way with just enough ambiguity for the reader to reevaluate and come full circle with The Pact and determine whether the Alice and Jake made the right choice.

The cover of Sight Unseen is absolutely stunning and the storyline stole my heart! Sight Unseen is similar to the Netflix phenomenon Love is Blind but even better; while the premise of the novel is a reality tv show, after the film crew leaves each day, the reader is able to experience the love between Quincy and Evelyn without the cameras. Their love story is dynamic and vulnerable and their evolution from meeting at the altar, sight unseen, to the very end shows that “love isn’t a fairy tale, it’s work and intention” and for Quincy and Evelyn their true love story begins when the cameras end.
