This book was awesome! A must read for fans of epic movies such as Braveheart who would love to see some of the epic stories of the Bible get the same treatment. This was an absolute treat!
I have never seen the movie Ben Hur so I really had no idea what to expect. This book was so fantastic. I cannot imagine them inserting so much emotion into a movie. I look forward to seeing how they did as I have now purchased the movie and look forward to watching it.
It has been a few years since Ted Dekker put out something that I felt compelled to read. it has been longer since he put out something I enjoyed this much! I cannot wait to read the next book!
This is the best Sci-Fi novel I have ever read! It is exactly the type of Sci-Fi I have longed to read but could never find, a very realistic take on space explorations! No aliens or strange creatures, just a look into the real dangers and more likely dangers of space exploration! This book is filled with numbers and statistics but I found myself not minding because Mark Watney is such a fun guy! Every time I read this book I thought to myself "You just read a bunch of log entries and statistics... why where you laughing, why where you on the edge of your seat!.. it should have been boring but instead you just couldn't put it down!" I am a slow reader and normally when I get to the end of a book I am pleased that I read it but I am ready to move on to the next book... when I finished this book I wanted more... so much more... I still want more... Andy Weir, your next book should be a mission to Pluto.... or.... any planet... more realistic space exploration please! Put it in the same "universe" as this book... have them reference the Mark Watney incident... How did that effect NASA going forward? Oh Please don't fall into the trap of trying to make a new Star Wars! That has been done, over and over again... and it almost always fails... but this! This is fresh! this is new! There is nothing out there like what you wrote here! I have looked... if there is more like this, please let me know! I haven't been able to find it!
Just finished Artemis by Andy Weir. His first book, The Martian is one of my favorite novels of all time... Artemis was very disappointing. HUGE step down. I hope he's working hard to redeem himself with his third novel. I still LOVE his brand of ultra-realistic science fiction but in Artemis, science was just the backdrop, not the focus. And Jazz, the main character, is one of the most unlikable heroes I have read in a novel.
my intention was to read the first book to see if I enjoyed it, then, someday get the second one. I am so glad I decided to go ahead anyway and order the second book because this was fantastic and I want more!
part Hunger Games, part Ender's Game. influences of Dune. the emotional impact of the Count of Monte Cristo... man I really enjoyed this book.
