kevinyoung's Reviews (67)

I read the first book and wondered how the second could possibly live up to it. After I finished the second book I thought there would be no way to top the books before. Pierce Brown just keeps getting better. At one time the idea crossed my mind that the 4th book would just be carrying the story longer than it needed to go.... after finishing book 3, I'm pushing that thought aside... I WANT MORE!

I have been a long time fan of Dune. When people asked me if I was a Star Wars guy or a Star Trek guy, I'd respond "I am a Dune guy." I had always intended to read Frank's son's work in the Dune universe but all the negative talk from other Dune fans nudged me away from it. But when I really began to consider the negative reviews I realized that they seemed to be a little unfair on the surface. "Brian is no Frank." No, I wouldn't expect him to be. "It lacked the depth the original saga had." But the truth was, each of the original 6 had their own level of depth, did that make any of them unenjoyable for me? No. I decided I would read these new books as one would read a news paper. The articles are telling you about events in the world, but different news writers bring different voices.
I enjoyed visiting Arrakis and the universe it inhabits again! I enjoyed it immensely! And I can't wait to read more! Does it feel like Frank wrote it? No. But does it feel like the story takes place in that universe? Absolutely! I loved it!
