I won't blame some people thinking that a good chunk at the start may seem filler-like and making them think "how is this going to relate to the title?" but man when you do get to the point where it starts coming together, it's a good ride. I did enjoy the slice of vacation life chapters as it reminded me of my own childhood in my family's home country.
I'm not one to seek books with romance. However, a trans book club I recently joined had this book for the month of January and I said "Alright you got me, lemme see what this is about."
No regrets. Fantastic YA queer book! I read an older version that had HP references, but I am aware there are reprints that remove them. Somewhat related note, yes there is transphobia. My heart went out to Felix for having to deal with it but I am so proud of how he handles it. The only issue that I really had was that the relationships had the same lesson of "bad communication causes a whole lotta misunderstandings."
Also shout out to Leah, she's such an MVP side character!
Fantastic book! I was curious to see how Michelle's life is shaped by the fact that she was a child of one immigrant parent and wow. I was absolutely hooked, wanting to read more and more. I send good vibes to Michelle in that she keeps living a fantastic life!
