In a long list of great books I've recently read, this one really resonated with me. I loved the character of Bean - particularly her spirit and courage.

At times difficult to read because of the heavy subject matter, this book was well worth every minute devoted to it! I particularly responded to the main character, Ruth, as I saw aspects of my own personality reflected in her. I enjoyed her relationship with her father, who made me grin with his speech patterns and pronunciation. I highly recommend this book!

A light, enjoyable mystery! Set at a bakery in New Orleans, it boasts a cast of interesting characters and, as a bonus for the foodies out there, recipes at the back of the book!
Birdsong: A Novel of Love and War by Sebastian Faulks

Beautifully written! It's brutally honest in its depiction of war, which makes it, at times, quite difficult to read. I wasn't so much a fan of the love story aspect of the novel, but was happy with the way the story ended.
